Noise margin dropping
So it's been a while since i was here last!!
I'm currently connected at 7mb with a snr of 6.3db and my line attenuation is 42.5db.
My issue as before is the snr keeps dropping below 4db and forcing a reboot because the connection is unusable.
After multiple calls to sky my connection was setup yesterday at 7.5mb and the snr stayed around 6db all afternoon and evening.
I got up this morning and noticed that the router had resynced to 7mb in the early hours. I rang sky this afternoon when the snr happened to be below 4db and they tried to run line tests but it kept failing to get to the bt equipment so they've logged it with a bt engineer so it can be checked out.
Will this have any bearing on my connection?

Re: Noise margin dropping
So a quick update, the bt engineer found nothing wrong but sky still could'nt complete line testing.
It's now been logged again for a broadband engineer to take a look this time. Sky have given me
a number to call CST direct so i'll be calling them this evening. Just on a side note even though we have'nt gotten very
far yet the help has been second to none!!

Re: Noise margin dropping
Assuming the broadband engineer (Special Faults Investigation) has already been booked over the phone for a specific date, then don't worry about contacting CST. Just wait for the visit and hopefully all shall be resolved.

Re: Noise margin dropping
Sorry should have said he's only going to the exchange and not my house, but still hopefully find something untoward that is causing the fluctuation with my snr.

Re: Noise margin dropping
My stats
Downstream:
Connected at 15.6 MB
Line Attenuation 22.0
Noise Margin: 3.3.
Upstream:
Connected at 0.9 MB
Line Attenuation 11.3
Noise Margin: 8.7
I notice when I pick up the phone the net cuts out
I have replaced some filters around the flat
But I have not tried the phone in the test socket as yet - I'll be doing so later on
Would there be a fault anywhere?
I've noticed lately the phone cutting out and sounding very crackly when I'm using it , when the Broadband is also in use
It's only been the past couple of weeks Ive noticed a problem

Re: Noise margin dropping
These are my current stats
Connection Speed Down 6784 kbps Up 896 kbps
Line Attenuation Down 39.0 db Up 23.5 db
Noise Margin Down 7.4 db Up 12.0 db
Bt have swapped my line to different equipment and my line attenuation has now come down to 39db from 42.5db,
but my downstream is still below what i'm expecting. I'm only 1.42km from my exchange as the crow flies and 2km line length,
shouldn't i be getting more? Also my snr still seems to be fluctuating alot (going below 5db), is this normal?
Cheers

Re: Noise margin dropping
Currently on g.dmt - you may get a little higher if you call Sky and ask them to change the line code to adsl2plus. Maybe worth a try.

I asked yesterday if I was now on gdmt as my attenuation had dropped to 39 but they said I was still on adsl2+
