Help setting up Windows Server 2008
Hello,
I am trying to set up Windows Server 2008 to host a web site. It currently works on my LAN and is accessible from outside for around 5 minutes. After this I get a "Http 504 Gateway Timeout" error. If I reset my router it'll go back to normal for around 5 minutes and then I won't be able to access it again.
For your information my URL is: www.georgefrost.com
I have followed the instruction in other threads and I'm not sure what's wrong. Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you
George

Have you set up a DynDNS account?

Re: Help setting up Windows Server 2008
If your IP changes, (which it will do) then the site will go offline if hosting at home on a Sky BB connection.
If you are trying from your own BB connection then NAT may stop you from viewing it anyway. Best checking it from a 3G phone (not wireless) or a connection outside of your network.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Help setting up Windows Server 2008
I'm currently testing it through an online proxy server and my phone. I always get the 504 gateway error. Even if I type my IP address into the browser I still get the same error. Resetting my router fixes this for a short while so I don't think it's an IP issue. I can't think of anything it could be!
Thanks

Re: Help setting up Windows Server 2008
Have you forwarded port 80 to the PC?
I cannot access it wither by URL or IP address.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Help setting up Windows Server 2008
Thank you for your help so far. Yes I have forwarded port 80 to my server and put my server in the DMZ.

Re: Help setting up Windows Server 2008
The site is pinging, but not being shown.
The server should only need to have port 80 forwarded, not full DMZ
Is it a different PC then the one you are using for surfing etc?~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Help setting up Windows Server 2008
Yeah, there are roughly 10 devices on the network. I have given the server a static ip though

Re: Help setting up Windows Server 2008
I know it sounds obvious, but the static IP for the server, ie 192.168.0.100 is the one that you have forwarded?
Make sure IIS service is running?
If you reboot the server I can try again connecting?~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~
