It's still below what you should get, but as the noise margin is fine, I don't think there is much more you can do without tweaking the noise margin.
Sorry about that.

Re: Any room for improvement???
MER is fine. That is how your router is connecting to Sky's servers and it is just an authentication method so there is nothing to worry about. G.DMT is what the router connects to the exchange by (you are using that in addition to PPoA or MER) and PPoA is just another authentication method.

Re: Any room for improvement???
Gigabit do you think that my new router would allow to to slightly tweak the noise margin myself. Is it even better than the standard skys 2504n. I got the TP-Link TD-W8961N 300Mbps Wireless N model. I fancied an upgrade

Re: Any room for improvement???
I'm sorry to be the giver of bad news, but that router will not let you tweak your margin. The W8960N will but the W8961N will not. If I was you, I would send the W8961N back and get a W8960N. It has a Broadcom chipset as well which should give better performance.
I am really sorry.

Re: Any room for improvement???
Not at all Gigabit. Thanks for this. My uncle has an older wireless g router from talk talk and he is on the lookout for a wireless n model for better performance so I can talk to him and hopefully get the model that you suggest. What I may do first though is have a nice chat with Sky first when the fiber is out just to see if they can do me a deal. Thanks for your help this is great!

Re: Any room for improvement???
At this stage tweaking your line will not improve things. You have been capped at a speed too low for your line IMHO.
I would suggest another call is in order.
As mentioned previously, a lot of new people have been granted access to the systems to allow them to manually adjust a line. There will be mistakes made as they learn, so please call again to see if you can get someone else who can correctly adjust your connection speeds.

Re: Any room for improvement???
Yes, but the OP should be syncing higher on the same noise margin, so getting the line capped higher isn't going to help. It is either because the OP has a fault on their line or that their line quality just isn't as good as it could be.
Have you run the quiet line test? Dial 17070 and select option 2. There should be no crackling or hissing. If you use a cordless phone, a dull hum is normal. If there are any noises, report a fault but DO NOT mention the broadband. Once the phone improves, the broadband will as well.

Re: Any room for improvement???
Ah lol sorry about that They said that it was capped at 5mb but then lifted it to 8mb. its only at 5536kbps. I thought this may have been all my line can handle as it dropped shortly after the agend changed it to ADSL1 and it was registering at 6214kbps.

Re: Any room for improvement???
Did that test and the MOS was 3.4 and it was reported okay. Perhaps Sky are forcing me to their fiber lol. I was hoping though that the BB would have stuck at around 6mb.

Re: Any room for improvement???
It is possible that they do not have a setting on G.DMT to lower the default noise margin. It may only be available on ADSL2+. I think the important thing is that you are now syncing at a reasonable speed, compared to what you had, with a good noise margin.
It is pretty pointless saying 'I have this speed with this attenuation' as all lines are different. This is a poor line and unless there is a fault found on it, it is not going to get any better. It is possible there is a stretch of low quality copper or even aluminium on it which will reduce its efficiency.
If you reboot when the line is quiet in the morning, you may find your speed increases.
