Re: Any room for improvement???
Thanks for your reply. Yes I thought it was strange that the upload speed went up and download went down but If thats the best I can get with BTs old lines then I would definately consider the fiber. I have registered interest for this. Its always annoying though to be on an up to 20mb deal and gettin 5 and then a fibre package that costs alot more. I wish virgin actually provided in my area. I always disagree with the whole line rental thing, renting lines that are old and never upgraded to handle more services.
If fiber is my last option I will look forward to when it comes out and maybe they will do me a deal
rant over apologies

Re: Any room for improvement???
Unfortunately they say 20mb and we all know you aren't going to get it. My dad lives literally 35 second walk from the exchange and gets 22mb on his standard free internet!
Its the luck of the draw. If you are on the tail end of the line even from the exchange, even with GREAT quality lines you wont achieve 20mb.

Re: Any room for improvement???
Sorry, My bad. You aren't likely to. Then I was pointing out some of the factors to consider.
What I was saying was that they say "upto" 20mb not you will get. Then I was emphasising that its relative to many factors one being the distance from the exchange you connect to, Then further explained that my dad gets 22mb as he is 300 yards (guestimate) from the exchange and I am probably 1/4 mile away and get 15mb

Re: Any room for improvement???
It is very frustrating the sub standard speeds we are still getting in this day lol. Having 3 laptops running at the same time means no sky anytime+ and very slow responses and thats with the wireless n router and wireless n laptop card upgrades.
When the agent put it to 8mb and the stats was showing over 6mb there was actually a great improvement and overall quality of service. It's a shame though that it has dropped again as this would have made a great difference having 6mb. Although unfortunately the stats have dropped again

And do you think it will go back up slightly, I am still in my test socket. Also I have registered interest in fiber. Should I then as another poster said just put up with this as it may be all I can get or as someone else said should I pursue it one last time to see if there are any other problems like corrosion on the connections outside at the pole or the box??ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 4928 kbps 798 kbps Line Attenuation 44.5 dB 25.9 dB Noise Margin 8.1 dB 13.2 dB

Re: Any room for improvement???
It looks like you resynced around 2am so DLM is probably running. I think your speed will probably go back up, maybe not to 6 Mb, but fairly close.

Re: Any room for improvement???
Just a quick update today. I see it must be trying its best but I dare say it will come down going by that noise margin:

Re: DLM Started 2 weeks ago so may still be going! Speed question??
It may pay to call Sky to see if someone can manually change your line to 'G.DMT' (aka ADSL1). You are in the zone where ADSL1 can produce a faster connection than ADSL2+.
However, FTTC is available at your exchange. Provided that you have an FTTC cabinet nearby, then you should be able to order SBUF from this Thursday and get around 8 times the download speed.
