whats going on with my broadband???
can anyone help me before i ring SKy and ask whats going on.
my broadband has been fluctuating speeds for 3-4 months. I got sky to manually configure my line as i should get higher speeds from 6mb to 7.2mb (i noticed i am now on MER).
Since then i been monitoring it and its going been going like this
7, 6.8, 6.7, 6.9, 7.0,7.1,6.7 etc
I never take my router off for over 4 months now. I am using a D-Link and have a old black Netgear router.
Is the above normal? My phone line is also not good quality but i cannot determin if its my cordless or line. I don't have this plugged in most times as i use my mobile.
Anyone advise if something is wrong? i will post stats when i get home

Re: whats going on with my broadband???
Have you tried getting the stats whilst using the test socket?
You should be getting far better speeds than that.
We estimate your line is capable of between 8mb to 9mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service. This ADSL2 Line Speed Calculator is a best guess only, as to the broadband speed that maybe possible on your telephone line. The checker provides results of up to 24mb with the data that is made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Line Speed that you would receive on any ADSL or LLU product from another ISP.

BUT LATEST DEVELOPMENT is that i have some reason now not on the MER connection but now its changed to PPPoA!!! and my speed has increased from 6712mb to 6891mb
is one better then the other? i have Sky phone too.
so what does that mean am i being DLM'ed constantly or is this normal?

Re: whats going on with my broadband???
PPPoA is better in the respect that you can use your own router with no difficulty. At the moment that is difficult with MER. As for actual performance, there should be no difference. They only way they differ is when logging in to the Sky servers, once that is done, there is nothing between them.
