Leaving the broadband alone until it's settled. Still have some time with with Virgin but the service so far from sky has been pretty good

Re: Nice one Sky!
I would say no, you will be lucky to get 5Mb.
Plug into your Test socket and post the stats from there. Use only the ADSL cable and filter supplied by Sky.

Re: Nice one Sky!
With your Line Attenuation you should be able to achieve between 7mb and 8mb. However your current Noise Margin figure suggests that this may not happen.
SkyUser - Potential ADSL2 Line Speed Checker & Calculator
Are you connected to the Master Socket with the short grey ADSL lead supplied with the router or are you on an extension?
If you aren't could you connect to it and post your stats from there please.
Next I would connect your router to the Test Socket, provided that you have one, and post your stats from the Test Socket. Could you test any telephone extensions too please. Whilst using the Test Socket, all extensions should be dead.
Sky User - How to test your Master Socket
If you do not have a Test Socket, could you ensure that everything is disconnected from any telephone extensions and then taking the stats from the Master Socket again.

Re: Nice one Sky!
Hello.
Directly into the master socket. Just on the filter. I'll try the test socket later.
so are you saying even 7-8 might be a problem based on the noise? I thought LLU was better than ADSL 2+?
We can trial it and see what we end up on and then if it's below 10 use the 3 months thing to get out and stay with our current provider.
::edit:: 42.5 in the test socket so between 8-9 website says.
Hmm. Might be cheaper but that's a far cry from what we get now.. Just don't like our current provider. Might put the sky BB down to the free one and just use as a backup and keep the phoneline with them.

Re: Nice one Sky!
sorry isitme I have just seen your post.
Well to be fair I don't like our current provider. I would rather than a stable 5-8mbps connection with a company I do like than one where I ccan get full speed but only overnight as it's throttled all the time when i am awake.
I mainly watch sky player online and also the BBC. I can do that with 5mbps.
Thing is i see everyone talk about wanting faster from their line. If truth be told I currently have 100mbps but I just tend to download from USENET just because I can.. It's £50 a month so not really ideal and thats on it's own.
So I can say that I have had the fastest broadband in the land and quite frankly I've run out of things to do with it!. As I said i stream everything and download very little. It was on the assumtion Sky wouldn't limit me streaming from them that I took the broadband. I don't have a TV licence so I only watch it on demand, same for BBC.
Okay so Sky seem to charge me £2.50 a month extra for not have sky TV but that's £30 a year. The TV would be something like £400 a year if you added the TV licence fee too!.
Cheers

Re: Nice one Sky!
Could you post the actual full connection stats from the Test socket please? There may be something else which will give some guidance to what you may get.
Once DLM kicks in, it may hopefully take some of the spare capacity on the upstream side to improve the downstream.

Re: Nice one Sky!
No problem. in this case there isn't any significant difference in the figures, in many cases there have been in the past with other members.
If there had been a difference it would have indicated one of two things (interference from internal wiring or a faulty faceplate). Both of these could have been dealt with.
Are you living in a block of flats, with the telephone wiring coming up through the building or does your telephone wiring come directly from outside?
