Sky DNS Servers and iOS 5.1 upgrade
If you keep getting errors trying to upgrade to iOS 5.1 then try overriding the Sky DNS Servers
I could not get anywhere with the download, tried 20 times always failed with various issues connected to actually accessing in the apple update servers.
Changed to the OpenDNS servers and it worked first time on every device I tried to upgrade (iPhone 4, iPad 2, iPad, iPhone 3G)
This link is this guide you on how to set up OpenDNS but the principles apply to all DNS options (NOTE YOU DONT NEED TO BUY ANYTHING TO USE THIS SERVICE, THE DNS SERVERS ARE FREE TO USE IN BASIC FORM)
https://store.opendns.com/setup/
Note the router instructions will probably not work if your using standard Sky Firmware. I use a Apple Airport Extreme in the DMZ of the Sky Router(Actually I have a port forward all setting - as DMZ on the Fast2504N is broken !!)
that way I don't break the sky T&C's but have a flexible and reliable solution------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Sky DNS Servers and iOS 5.1 upgrade
I just changed the DNS on each device to 8.8.8.8 (Apple's own), that worked first time.

If you have the space for it you can also use 8.8.4.4, which is their secondary server address.

Re: Sky DNS Servers and iOS 5.1 upgrade
I'd avoid the google servers - its bad enough they record where you had visited when you use Chrome or their search engine use the Google servers and they will KNOW EVERYTHING
Watch the targeted advertising increase when you visit sites within days of using their DNS settings :-)------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Sky DNS Servers and iOS 5.1 upgrade
I agree, that's why I use the OpenDNS servers.

Re: Sky DNS Servers and iOS 5.1 upgrade
I had the same problem, so I changed the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 for 2 iPhones, iPad and Mac for the update and just changed back after.
