Can I sync faster?
Hello,
I've just moved over from Virgin's cable internet service to Sky, mainly due to price, but also due to an ongoing poor connection.
I had a brand new line installed as my house didn't have one and have been going through DLM for the last few days. I think I'm near the end as my router hasn't rebooted for over 2 days.
Whilst I realise these are still really good speeds, I was hoping with the following stats I'd get closer to 18/19 mbps.
I'm currently synced at 15.3 mbps. With all your expert opinions do you think there is anything I can do to make it quicker?
Thanks for your help. I genuinely do appreciate it.
Ben.

Re: Can I sync faster?
With an attenuation of 23 you should expect to get
ADSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 16mb to 24mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service. This ADSL2 Line Speed Calculator is a best guess only, as to the broadband speed that maybe possible on your telephone line. The checker provides results of up to 24mb with the data that is made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Line Speed that you would receive on any ADSL or LLU product from another ISP.
Have you tried your router in the test socket?

I would wait for DLM to finish and take it from there to be honest.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Can I sync faster?
I've plugged into the test socket but it's made no difference. To be honest I don't have any other wiring in the house so it shouldn't affect my sync rate.
What is the best thing I can do once DLM has completed?

Re: Can I sync faster?
If anything it's the upstream attenuation has got worse?!

Re: Can I sync faster?
I don't think it has, it is more likely that the original reading was wrong. From comparing hundreds of stats it appears the upstream attenuation is always a bit more than half of the downstream. As the original reading was about a third of the downstream, I think it was wrong. Why, I'm afraid I don't know.
If these figures were taken from the test socket then it looks like your internal wiring is OK and it is the condition of your external line which is preventing you syncing any higher.

Re: Can I sync faster?
I've just looked at my statistics again and my Upstream attenuation has dropped. I'm guess this is not good? Or is low attenuation good?

Re: Can I sync faster?
The lower the attenuation the better, but as I said previously, I don't think you are getting a true figure. I wouldn't worry about it

Re: Can I sync faster?
It might be worth fitting an nte2000 instead of the sky supplied filter
everyone i have ever seen use one it has made a difference
but someone on here the other week it didnt
so its luck of the draw
Here's one example
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/techn...faceplate.html
Its worth a try for £7.50 or so
and worked in my case

Re: Can I sync faster?
call SKY and ask for it too be uncapped... that will sort it! - DLM landing short of the mark....again... you just need browse around this and the SKY forums too see this is common when migrating to SKY that DLM falls short of what lines SHOULD be getting on default SNR, this is the third one in a row ive come across on this forum today. I get 18,013k on a line slightly longer than yours...but I did also get 15,400k same as you and had to call SKY to get it uncapped, your line should be hitting 19k syncs.
I also use a NTE 2000 Faceplate and it added nearly 0.5Mb to my sync rate just from the better filtering alone as I did not have any extension wiring (or ringwire)
wait for your MySky page to say DLM has finished (always at least a few days delay so be patient) the call SKY and tell them you would like the line un-capped - the guy i spoke to said straight away my 15Mb line should get 19Mb...and he sorted it.
good luck!- Hardware - Netgear DG834Nv1
