yet another slow speed post
I have been using sky unlimited for well over a year, not being overly happy about the speed, but having been told that is what my line takes I shrug my shoulders and lived with it. But yesterday two of neighbours asked for a little bit of help. (1) about 20 yards from me on the same exchange etc. using talktalk, I went round and set up them for wirless and was gobsmacked to see their speed of 3.3mgs (2) Identical house to me built same time 5 years ago. Everything indentical using same package as me, only difference is they are about 30 yards further up our little close. her speed is 2.1mg.
my speed is regually checked and the best I get is 0.7mg which to be honest is pants. I am no mug I have been working with computers etc since the days of my trusty Amiga, taken several courses in the industry. Not claiming to be an expert but I am certainly not a noob.
You can imagine my horror seeing two people living as close neighbours getting far better speeds than me and one of them using exactly the same as me.
I have tried talking with tech support but to be honest I feel I am going round in circles and getting nowhere, something is wrong, I have recked everything router settings, filters, only 1 computer switched on, no other electrical items anywhere near router, no extention leads used. Tried inside master socket. There is nothing wrong on myside.
I really don't expect anyone to have a brain storming answer, but just to agree or partly agree something seems wrong.
I am going to switch to talktalk or plusnet, I have given Sky plenty of time for usage and not impressed at all.

1- there is no point comparing your speed to your neighbours who live 30 yards down the road as there telephone line could run a completly different way to the exchange as yours does.
2- post your router stats so we can see what's going on. Also post them from the test socket(if you have one)
Do you always have your router connected into the master socket with one filter and no extension cables?

Re: yet another slow speed post
Without seeing the stats it hard to diagnose but there are people on here that can point you in the right direction

Re: yet another slow speed post
I am now off out to a football match,
But you say it is no use talking a neighbour speed, but when that neighbour is in the same close, the cables all come in on the same ducking under the road, where mine branches off first hers carry on a little. I have seen inside the telecom manhole cover.
I'll try and post the stats later on, take it you want it from a tester site.

Re: yet another slow speed post
Line faults, faulty face plates, faulty router. Do the stats connected to your faceplate and then the master socket.

With an attenuation of 68.5 that indicates that you are about 3 to 4 kilometres from the Exchange. And that 1 - 2 meg is the best you can expect in all reality.
What you need to do is see what happens from behind the master socket.
Let us know once tried.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: yet another slow speed post
When you move the router, power it off then on again when you plug it into the Test/Master socket. This is to ensure the existing stats are fully refreshed.
