Re: Major Broadband Fault - 2 years on and still no progress :(
Currently I can get around 17Mb Down and up to 800Kb up. Coming from a sub 3 meg line, this has made a huge difference to our online lifestyle (eg. we can now use iPlayer on all the TVs) and the stability is just amazing compared to before! The neighbours are all on Infinity or Sky Fibre and are getting the same speeds. The reason the speeds are not like many other users is because Openreach were basically lazy and left the Cab for the village in the middle of nowhere. It seems the farmers are enjoying the 80Mb speeds, not! :P Its actually been raised at the local committee though so maybe one day they will move it.
There is one little snag though, is every time I have a power cut, the line gets clamped at 10Mb and I have to ring Sky to reset it. (Any ideas why?)
Thanks for all your support though

That isn't too bad. I remember you saying that it wouldn't be close to the 40/10 connection speeds.
As for the power cut issues, this appears to be a common issue with FTTC connections. You could perhaps look into getting a UPS, but this is only patching up the power outages at you end. Ideally you would need to find a way to resolve this.

Re: Major Broadband Fault - 2 years on and still no progress :(
Yeh I did consider a UPS but I don't really want to buy one unless it comes to it. Sky are looking into it for me but I told them it wasn't urgent as the connection is fine, its definitely a setting on the DSLAM side of things as an engineer did come out to try and fix it, he found it was capped even on his testing device, so its not my modem. We don't get power cuts often but there were a few during summer due to lightning storms and awful weather we had this year. The odd thing is, the speed wont revert back after 14 days, its like the DSLAM thinks it cant go any higher for this line, but it can, the maximum I can manage is 20 apparently however when synced around 20 a few CRC errors build up so they recommend 15-17 as a stable rate.

The weather has been a little peculiar this year.
I think it was quite cold, wet and windy at the end of August, whilst down in Bournemouth it was hot and sunny.
