Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Hi All,
I'm new to the site and have been having a good browse around. Seems you guys have a great knowledgeable forum and I wonder if you'd be kind enough to help me out.
My unlimited service went live on 06/02/12 and assume that it is in DLM at the moment as the PPPoA connection seems to be reset around 2am each morning. Strangely though if I log on to My Sky the message I get is that the line is not currently being tested.
My only slight concern is that each time the line re-syncs the sync speeds slightly lessen and the ping is longer which could be an issue in the future with the Xbox Live games.
I appreciate that the DLM process takes around 10 days but is this kind of response normal and will I see a turnaround with the stats moving upwards with every re-sync?
The line is an ADSL2+ service and I was previously with BT which showed a ping of between 30-40ms with a download of 6.5 meg and upload of around 1 meg.
I am not using the standard Sky Sagem as I not long ago bought a Draytek unit so the line stats look as below.

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Better to use the Sky router during DLM, also makes it a LOT easier to read the stats!

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
One restart won't make a difference - over 10 in quick succession would though!

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Other than ease of reading the stats is there any other benefit to the Sky router being used during DLM? If there is a known technical benefit to having it connected during DLM then I'll hook it up.

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Not at all, it just means the Sky servers don't have anything to possibly kick off about. End of the day if you're happy with how it is now then don't change, but it makes it harder for us to diagnose the issue without properly interpreting the stats

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
The main benefit in using the Sky router during DLM training is if you have to call Sky Help. They will find it difficult to check the problem if you are using your own router and may even refuse to help until you connect the router provided. The fact that your speed is reducing instead of increasing suggests you may have a problem. It may benefit you to plug in your Sky router.

This is a slightly clearer view of the current line stats

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Another re-sync overnight and a further drop in performance. I would have thought (hoped) that DLM would be looking to up the line rate to a point where stability was an issue and then back it off from there but it seems to be just dropping. This mornings sync speed is 4092 on the downstream. Give that the downstream attenuation is 39 with an SNR of 9 it should sync a lot higher than that.
I hope this is just down to DLM as I know that the line is capable of at least 6 meg and the poor ping is causing further issues on XBL.

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
My DLM was erroneous and dropped the speed over the ten days after previously being on 19meg with another provider (admittedly with a low snr of 3.4) But it was rock solid.
Sky ended up giving me an end result of 10.2meg. A quick call jumped it to 15 which will do till fibre kicks in. I'm lucky enough to be enabled at my exchange.
I agree with the others and think you should use the sky router till DLM has completed. I'm a router snob and the sky one has been fine, but yeah, draytek is better.
