Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Well I spoke to Sky today who confirmed that DLM is running and will finish on 18/02. They also told me that it is normal for the re-syncs to lower the rate during the DLM period but they should gradually stabilise towards the end of the period.
I hope it can be set at an acceptable level ultimately because Sky's customer service is way better than that of BT's!

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Another day, another speedtest. Less download speed yet again but with a slightly improved ping. Router is happily sat at a downstream attenuation of 39 as usual so it should be more than this on download.

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Speed tests are useless for diagnosis, please post your stats. These tell the full story.

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
We seem to be stuck on or around this speed.
Stats as follows:
--------------------------- ATU-R Info (hw: annex A, f/w: annex A) -----------
Running Mode : ADSL2+(G.992.5) State : SHOWTIME
DS Actual Rate : 4092368 bps US Actual Rate : 798989 bps
DS Attainable Rate : 7124000 bps US Attainable Rate : 945000 bps
DS Path Mode : Interleave US Path Mode : Interleave
DS Interleave Depth : 511 US Interleave Depth : 8
NE Current Attenuation : 39 dB Cur SNR Margin : 9 dB
DS actual PSD : 17. 7 dB US actual PSD : 9. 4 dB
ADSL Firmware Version : 2471201_A
-------------------------------- ATU-C Info ---------------------------------
Far Current Attenuation : 25 dB Far SNR Margin : 16 dB
CO ITU Version[0] : 00004244 CO ITU Version[1] : 0000434d
DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR : < BDCM >
The key here appears to be the DS Attainable rate which shows as a little over 7 meg so should allow me to see the 6 meg I would expected after overheads have been taken into consideration.
I appreciate that this thread is probably pretty boring to read but it will hopefully come in useful as a prompt when speaking to Sky if things don't improve once DLM finishes.

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
I hope that they will work with me should the need arise for me to question the figures reached following DLM.
I tested the Sagem router in terms of wireless performance and found it to struggle in some areas of my house where the Draytek worked fine so it is of no use to me.
To be honest there should be no "technical" reason for the Sagem to be connected during DLM. It sounds more political to me.
As said previously, either Sky will be able to provide an acceptable service or I will return to BT which I would rather not have to do.

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Yes it is partially political, but it says it in their T&Cs.
However, many actually will not blink an eye and provided that the issue isn't related to the router, they will continue to provide help.
The stats that you are showing actually are difficult to interpret as they do not show the figures in a clear manner that most contributers on this forum are used to.
If it helps, I left my Netgear DGN2000 connected when I was first connect to Sky as I didn't get the Sky router for over a week. That wasn't great for me as I needed to continue using a 3G dongle as I needed a Sky router in order to get the log in details and didn't know that at the time.

Re: Sync speeds and ping during DLM
Most of those that now use our own routers did use the Sky router during DLM , which makes sense I think.
Honestly why should Sky support you when you're using a router that they have no knowledge of & don't support. To me that seems perfectly reasonable from Sky's point of view. As Scubbie points out it is in their T&Cs
By all means use the Draytek once DLM & any issues from that are resolved , as many of us do.
