Re: connect to unlimited migration
quick update.
Speed Down 16379*kbps Up 1117*kbps
Attenuation Down 22.5*dB Up14.0*dB
Noise Down 7.6*dB Up 9.6*dB
no big change there. i'm using shielded cat5e ethernet now. decided the ps3 speed test is rubbish as it's currently fluctuating from 9 - 11. skyuser test goes 13.77, 13.59, 13.78 etc so will use that from now on.
i have a question about latency. 2 days ago the cst lady said she put me on 8ms delay. yesterday she said i am "still on 16ms delay". any way i can find out without phoning to clarify? i understand it can affect speed & didn't want the 8ms affecting the dlm process, as when i was manually sync'd at 18 meg on the default profile, i apparently had no errors. pinging bbc.co.uk using the router tool gives 23.2, 22.8, 23.4, 23.9ms which seems brilliant & makes me think i'm on 8ms. using pingtest.net though gives ping 41 - 47 & jitter 6 - 11. maybe i should forget pingtest.net. any ideas?

Re: connect to unlimited migration
Usually DLM will automatically put you on 8ms, so you are probably still on it. I doubt if you would get results like that with anything higher.
As you say, forget Pingtest, it is like its brother speedtest site, not consistent. The command prompt is far more accurate.

Re: connect to unlimited migration
cheers isitme. so from now on it's this excellent site for speed tests & the router for ping tests... or grow up, buy a computer & do a tracert!
things are looking good though. i know from scubbies stats that it's ok to lose around 3 meg from sync to throughput. if the cst lady is right, max attainable for me is 21, but i had 7.2 noise at 18 meg, with no errors, so guess 18.5 is the actual max. considering i'm in a flat with 'some' aluminium cabling, it's all starting to make sense now. if i end up with18 meg & 35 ping without gamer profile, or 17 meg & 25 ping with it, i'll be over the moon.
it'll also be, in no small part, thanks to people like you who take the time to help out anxiety ridden newbies like me.
thanks again.Last edited by gymno; 03-02-12 at 02:23 PM.

Re: connect to unlimited migration
just incase anyone's following, dlm did this for me:
Speed Down 19004kbps Up 1164kbps
Attenuation Down 22.5db Up 14.0db
Noise Down 7.2db Up 9.4db
throughput is 15.77 down using skyuser speed test

For your Line Attenuation, that looks healthy.

Re: connect to unlimited migration
lmao - no problem.
We all make mistakes, I have stated previously that I don't mind being corrected if I make an error.
