Re: connect to unlimited migration
i was happy to wait for dlm but this lady has been amazing since picking up my batton a few weeks ago. is my throughput side of things ok? for the first set of stats:
ps3 speed test Downstream 3.2mbps Upstream 461kbps
skyuser speed test Downstream 3.4mbps Upstream 434kbps
pingtest.net result ping 69 jitter 5
router ping tool (bbc.co.uk) 41ms-44ms
& for the second set:
ps3 speed test Downstream 9.4mbps-11.8mbps Upstream 845kbps
skyuser speed test Downstream 13.1mbps- 13.7mbps Upstream 800kbps
pingtest.net result ping 55 jitter 12
router ping tool (bbc.co.uk) 24.4ms- 25.6ms

Re: connect to unlimited migration
Sounds like the girl was either clueless of the DLM procedure or just didn't care!

Re: connect to unlimited migration
the sky lady is calling me back at 5 tomorrow to check everything is ok, but i just don't know enough to say for sure. this is what's racing round my head:
i'm a bit disappointed to be losing between 5 & 9 meg somewhere. the ps3 & skyuser speed tests always used to differ by only 500kbps max, so don't know what's happened there. also, the ps3 test result was contant at the 4095 sync, but now varying by 2 meg. does the 8ms delay detract from sync or just throughput speed? i did say to the lady i was hoping to not need the gamer profile & keep my speed up. the pings came down but don't like the look of that jittter now.
whatever, it's like an other world compared to connect!
ps i'm still wireless at the mo, but that should change by the weekend.

Re: connect to unlimited migration
Chances are that's the issue, get InSSIDer and make sure you're not on a congested channel (or just use Ethernet)

Re: connect to unlimited migration
thanks iwnte, i hope that's all it is. just a shame i can't run inssider on my console & live in a town that doesn't have cables longer than 2 metres! as long as there's nothing there that you'd be worried about, i'm well happy. i'll order some cat5e today & see what happens. i did about 40 different speed tests last night & they ranged from 9 - 15. pings were all over 55 though.

Re: connect to unlimited migration
just noticed dlm started overnight
speed 16381*kbps 1108*kbps
attenuation 22.5*dB 14.0*dB
noise 7.6*dB 8.9*dB
the lady said she'd put stabilisation on or something as there were no errors at 18 meg, so it won't go down, can only go up. mind you, my noise at 18 meg was 7.1 - 7.3, so perhaps only by 500kbps.
when she phones back, do you think it's best to leave dlm on or ask for manual configuration?

Re: connect to unlimited migration
Leave it as you should've had to wait in the first place...chance are the line was erroring at 18Mbps so DLM reduced it down. If the line is stable it'll go back up again
As for inSSIDer, do you not have a PC you can install it on?-------------------------------------------

Re: connect to unlimited migration
thankyou both. i know i'm a bit of a worrier... & a control freak! unfortunately i don't have a computer, but it would be good to know if a lot of what's going on is down to the ps3. might have to borrow a laptop, atleast to use speedtest.net as that's what everyone seems to go by. i did use speedtest.net mini last night while sync'd at 18 meg & got 13.5. don't know if it uses the same 'system' as the proper one though. as for dlm it's more a case of what to say when the lady asks me, rather than me asking for a manual configuration. i must sound a lot more clued-up than i am. it's all new to me. thanks again.

Re: connect to unlimited migration
sorry to go on, but just for the record, mysky is saying (obviously delayed from yesterday) than line testing has completed resulting in 4.1 down & 0.5 up. explains why the lady at sky jumped on it. hope it's not indicative of anything sinister.
