Wired Connection problems
Hi
I have a PC running Windows XP that I'd like to connect to the internet via wired connection as it has no internal wireless capabilities.
Following the tutorial of plugging in the yellow network cable into the Ethernet ports on both the router and my PC simply doesn't work.
Is there any other configuration I need to make to get this to work? The router does have an internet connection, as it can be connected to via a laptop using wireless.
Many thanks

Re: Wired Connection problems
I suspect that your computer has a preset IP address and isn't seeing your Sky router. There is another possibility in that the adaptor isn't connecting to the router.
A simple check for both would be to find out the IP address first.
Could you please perform the following:
Click the <Start> button, select <Run> and type 'CMD' and click <OK>.
Maximise the new window that has opened and type 'ipconfig' and press <Return>
If you could then screen dump the results, specifically for the 'Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection' and post the result up. You may wish to crop the image and blank the end of the line which shows the IP Address with lots of colons. The line that shows the IP Address with the dots (i.e. 192.168.0.2) is needed to help, as is the other lines and figures.

Re: Wired Connection problems
First thing to check is if the Network adapter on your PC is properly enabled. Go to the Device Manager and check that the adapter is shown and there are no warning marks against it.

Check the LED's on the router & back of PC, if they are lit and/or flickering then the cable is fine. If they are not then check the BIOS as above to see if the NIC is disabled.
