Very slow speed after changing to Sagem 2504
Before Christmas my broadband died on me. After spending hours on the phone to Sky and BT, tests run etc I said I would pay for a new router as it was suggested this could be the only fault left. Eventually, last week, my new Sagem router turned up (i had a netgear before). I am now getting a very slow connection speed:

My utorrent download speeds are now about 5-10% of what they were before.
Any ideas what could be the problem?

Speed tests only show part of the story. In this case I would probably have to point out the issues with Sky Connect. Essentially if you go over the 1.3GB of traffic that you are allowed on the Connect package, for too many days, then you get throttled back to the dial-ip era
The only figures that are reliable in this instance are the connection stats from your router:
How to get your router statistics
For more information on Sky Connect, please take a look at this thread:

Re: Very slow speed after changing to Sagem 2504
So you are telling me that my 'unlimited' package that i pay for is actually limited and therefore I have been mislead?
It also doesn't explain why for the past year and a half i had had excellent download speeds and suddenly my previous router failed and i only get very poor download speeds with the new router. Or are you suggesting this is just a massive coincidence???

Re: Very slow speed after changing to Sagem 2504
If you are on Connect, I am pretty sure that is not unlimited. Are you sure you are on Connect?
As for the torrents speed, have you opened any ports in the new router?
Saying that, with an attenuation of 51.5 I would expect to see a lot better than 757 kbps downspeed. (certainly above 4meg / maybe higher)~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Very slow speed after changing to Sagem 2504
About a year ago i called sky about my broadband being slow and they told me i needed to upgrade to an unlimited package otherwise my download speeds could be cut back. so i upgraded to what i was told was an unlimited package.
I have no idea what you mean about opening ports. i am just a general home user.
but, as i said, before my previous router failed i didnt hav any problems at all, download speds were fine. now i find that my ipad on o2 3g actually gives me a faster connection for viewing the web.

Re: Very slow speed after changing to Sagem 2504
How much did you pay before was it free?
How much do you pay now for it?
Leave that bit for it now, there's an issue with the connection IMO - That can be sorted afterwards.
In layman's terms, your download speed is (according to your stats) 757 kbps
1 meg = 1000 kbps
You should get at least 4 meg with the figures showing.
4 meg = 4000 kbps
Therefore your connection is running about 1/5th the minimum that I would expect to see, no wonder things are slow.
You may have been put back on DLM possibly, but something is not right for sure.
Hopefully others can give you some better guidance to help sort things out for you.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Very slow speed after changing to Sagem 2504
I've just doubled checked, and changed my profile, i am definitely on beoadband unlimited.
as i said this seems weird as a month ago with the netgear router all was fine, that has died and the new sagem router is now giving me very poor speeds. would be very odd if that was merely coincidence.

Re: Very slow speed after changing to Sagem 2504
OK - The good news is, Unlimited is just that, so Sky would not slow anything you do on the internet down. ie Torrents etc, nor do they care how much you download, so the information about Connect does not apply in this case.
It's purely a case of sorting the slow download speeds out now, I have flagged this thread so others can try to suggest things to try for you.
Someone will be along shortly, hopefully.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~
