Sync rate loss after moving to MER
Today, I was moved to the SVBN, as expected, having received a letter from Sky a couple weeks back. Prior to this, I had an absolutely rock solid connection; I was sync'd virtually since activation in February 2011 without a hiccup with the following:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 12003 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0db 16.1db
Noise Margin 7.1db 10.0db
I have today come, following the upgrade, to:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9215 kbps 1117 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0db 18.1db
Noise Margin 7.4db 8.2db
I haven't yet spoken with Sky. I'd be very grateful for some advice.

Re: Sync rate loss after moving to MER
Seems this happens a lot when people move to the SVBN

Re: Sync rate loss after moving to MER
Is there anything that can be done? The stats would almost suggest not.

Re: Sync rate loss after moving to MER
There is no harm is calling Sky and asking to speak to someone who can manually tweak your connection.
They may be able to adjust things so that you can get more from your connection. As IWNTE has stated, this is a common issue, but there may be a little that can be achieved.

Re: Sync rate loss after moving to MER
Thanks to you both.
It's frustrating. Why should a move to a different network have such a negative impact? It's the same line, after all.

Re: Sync rate loss after moving to MER
The connection will have been changed in the Telephone Exchange and some wiring will now be connecting your line to the Sky LLU equipment.
Sadly it does seem that BTO are often using the cheapest wiring that they can get away with. This is what generally affects the connection speeds.

Re: Sync rate loss after moving to MER
Same happened to me - syncing at 11Mb, switch to MER put me on 9.5.
If I reboot the router though I go back up to 11mb, for 2-3 months at a time typically - eventually it changes to 9.5 in time.....

I'm glad that it's not just me. Strangely I've recovered some of the lost rate without doing anything (about 10.7Mb now). But even so.
I think the rest that I'm 'missing' might be down to the higher upload sync rate now. IIRC, some of the frequencies that could be used for download are being used by upload.
