Switch from BT, connection type changed to MER and speed changed, normal??
hi there guys,
i had sky broadband from some time, totally happy with it... i was on a BT phone line until today, download speed has been always great, connected at approx 19500 kbps and upload 1065 kbps..
now, i switched phone line to sky and today they did the move, i noticed something different, network mode is now MER, VCI is 40 and download speed dropped to 18538 kbps though upload improved to 1168 kbps
overall the line feels the same, ping etc etc, but i was wondering, is it normal and why they changed network mode? always had PPPoE/A with my adsl these past few years..
i know is a small thing but when you get used to such high speed, losing 1mbit feels weird hehe
many thanks

Re: Switch from BT, connection type changed to MER and speed changed, normal??
Sky are moving to MER at present, so nothing to worry about there. Also, drops in speed between providers are normal as different exchange gear is in use as well as different modems
It all sounds fine to me-------------------------------------------

well, thanks for the info, i thought it was the same equipment down at the central. then its a complete different setup with different hardware most likely.
phoned sky support and they said that there's no space for futher speed increase otherwise line may become instable...
peace...
