My Connection - how can I get pings improved
My connection originally started at 3mb download but after a month it shot up to 7mb and has stayed there.
As I've started playing the ps3 a lot more I'm noticing connection is not always the best and my pings are around 50.
(Basically I'm always on 3 green bars and I can notice the difference when other players are on 4bars)
Below are my router stats
System Up Time: 1092:07:34
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN MER 2070856 7600728 0 1656 5294 112:40:21
LAN 256258 436657 0 22 15 1092:07:34
WLAN 6878361 4696112 0 5294 3534 112:40:07
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7008 kbps 797 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0db 22.6db
Noise Margin 2.5db 14.7db
Is there anything I can ask sky to tweak to get better pings?
Thanks for the help

Re: My Connection - how can I get pings improved
Connection stats and ping response times are two different things.
Looking at those stats you are already pushing your connection. What I fail to understand is why you couldn't post those stats from your home?
If you want to improve your Ping, then you could call Sky and be asked to be placed on the 'Gamer Profile'.
Since we don't know what your ping is, we don't know if this could be improved though.

Re: My Connection - how can I get pings improved
Cheers for the reply
I placed my ping results in my original post but this was using pingtest.net, will try pinging BBC tonight when I get home for better results.
I posted the original email from my works computer, is that against forum rules? I was rushing when I got the line stats so I saved the results and posted at work when I remembered.
My connection speeds are pretty good for my distance from the exchange and I'm happy with them. I posted the stats in case anything could be tweaked to help my connection. If you think these are pretty bang on then I'm good with that
Will update the post tonight with pings to BBC.

Managed to run 2 tests late last night.
Pinging bbc - 49ms average, no loss
Running pingtest.net - 80ms, it gave my line B*.
Also checked my connection stats again and they had changed. Do these auto change daily? My download had gone down to 6.5mb.
Gonna give sky a call but not sure tier 1 will be any help.

Re: My Connection - how can I get pings improved
Stats can change if there is any interference on the line.
This can be acceptable in some cases, but if the interference is too large then it will cause you problems.
A Ping of 49ms sounds high these days, but not unacceptable.
I would suggest that it may be necessary to place you on a Gamer's Profile to reduce the pings.

Also noticed my attuention levels fluctuate while browsing the router stats.
After reading through others posts on here I don't think my stats should be changing.
I have my router direct in to the main socket, the main socket has a filtered faceplate on.
Think I'm definitely going to need to call sky

Cheers scubbie, I'll ring them tonight and ask for the gamers profile an to test my line.

Re: My Connection - how can I get pings improved
Before calling, if your Line Attenuation is fluctuating, I would suggest a couple of things first.
Could you check to see if there is any unusual noise on the line? Using a corded telephone dial '1' and listen carefully. Whilst there may be a little high-pitched hissing noise, listen for any crackling or loud hissing. Ideally the line should be silent.
If there is any noise, then you have a line fault and this will need to be looked at first.
Next trace the line from your master socket to the telegraph pole or where it goes underground. Look to see if there is a BT Junction box or something else.

Oh dear.
The line goes underground but where I'm not sure. The estate is 9 year old. Will see what I find tonight. Might check out google maps.
I have cordless phones as well, not going well. Does it have to be corded to work?
Cheers for the help, gonna have a good look at this tonight? Could it be the filtered faceplate?
I'm sure my connection was netter before it went on sky's hardware/network.

Infact the line goes under ground at the side of my front door. What exactly should i be looking for? Something on the estate or something near my drive/door?
Cheers
