Last month I helped someone to sign up to Plus Net. They asked whether she would use her own router or whether she would pay ~£5 for the delivery of their router.
As she was moving from Virgin Cable to ADSL, she took the Plus Net router, but could easily get her own in the future if she wanted to.
Supporting a router from another manufacturer is not normally that difficult.
