Slow (160kbps down) Speeds and Frequent connection breaks.
Just looking for a little un-official help as i'm at the end of my leash with Sky's actual "support " (Read checklist, put on hold for 3 hours).
Since i set up my Sky Broadband i've gotten a slow down speed of 160 kbp/s Max, almost as if it's hard capped.
Combined with this is seem to get split second disconnections every few minuits which kills any hope of watching streams or gaming.
i'm not too sure what stats will be needed, but here's a bit of everything i've seen asked around for:
Modem ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023o.d20h Modem Status Up DownStream Connection Speed 1532 UpStream Connection Speed 604 VPI 0 VCI 40
BT Line Speed Estimation
Fixed ADSL: 1024 kbps (1 Mb)
DSL Max: 2500 kbps (2.5 Mb)
21CN WBC : 3000 kbps (3 Mb)
radsl: 512Kbps and 256Kbps available
MAX: ADSL Max is available
Thanks for taking the time to look at this

sorry about that
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 1532 kbps 604 kbps Line Attenuation 62.0 db 36.2 db Noise Margin 7.4 db 13.2 db
an easier to read version for good mesure:
and here's a speedtest too.

Re: Slow (160kbps down) Speeds and Frequent connection breaks.
Line is 'capped' to 1536/608 on adsl2plus. However, you have a pretty long line, so you're never going to see a great speed unfortunately. Perhaps getting Sky to change the line code to g.dmt will help somewhat, but I can't see it providing a lot more speed.
Are these stats from your test socket (provided you have one). Link below if you're not sure:
How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket
Take the stats from the test socket with just the short grey dsl cable that Sky provided.

Re: Slow (160kbps down) Speeds and Frequent connection breaks.
unfortunatly, there's no test cable in my home =/ it's a pain but it's all i have.
i will get onto them about changing over to g.dmt though, thanks alot for the help.
also going to have to put in a formal complaint to sky though, according to their "tests" i should be getting 2MB down speeds and not 160kB down.
again, thanks alot for the help.
now i just need to look into these frequent disconnects.

Re: Slow (160kbps down) Speeds and Frequent connection breaks.
When was the last time you seen a disconnect? To check what's actually disconnecting, copy and paste in the full stats (system up time, WAN up time etc.)
Also, you're talking about bits and bytes here when talking about your speeds. Forget about the speed test results etc. for the time being. Did Sky tell you that you should get a sync speed of 2048 or above? If so, then call them and tell them this.

Re: Slow (160kbps down) Speeds and Frequent connection breaks.
Sync speeds were never mentioned. but we were told a 2 megabyte download speed.
i'll get back with the stats once the disconnects kick in again, it's a periodic thing. genrally happens for a couple days then stops for a couple... and seems to have stopped as soon as i need to check them... typical

Do as suggested and you may get a bit more, but not a lot.

Explains why i've been pulling my hair out over it then.
Thanks alot for the help all, you've proved in 1 day that you're more helpful than the guys in the call centres.
i'll see about changing over to g.dmt and i'll stop fussing over the speed.
thanks again
