Upload speed being capped when using torrents?
Hey guys, I have started using UK Nova which uses torrenting, I have uTorrent installed on my PC.
During the downloading of the torrents most of the time my connection speed is used to the max however when Seeding the upload speed is only between "0.2 - 3.0kB/sec"
I've checked uTorrent's setting and the Upload rate is set to 100kB so I should be getting a much higher speed. Ive tried seeding other files which have a good number of downloaders but the upload speed still doesn't rise.
I've done a speed test and my results are;
Download Speed: 3308 kbps (413.5 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 527 kbps (65.9 KB/sec )
Are Sky capping my connection?

Re: Upload speed being capped when using torrents?
I normally recommend that you personally cap the potential upload speed for your torrents to about 2/3rds of the maximum speed.
In my case I currently cap it to 65kb/s during the day. At night I allow it to go up to 110kb/s when I am in bed.
If you leave the upload speed uncapped, then the torrent software doesn't have enough bandwidth to chat with the tracker/s or other computers seeding to you.
Also if you have it uncapped you can't even browse the Internet when it is busy.
If you have a slow upload speed, then you may wish to consider setting the cap to at least 30kb/s less than your max upload speed.

Re: Upload speed being capped when using torrents?
I don't know an awful lot about torrents, but doesn't the speed you upload depend on how many want what you have to offer? If no one wants what you have, you will not upload much.

Re: Upload speed being capped when using torrents?
That is correct, but I have found from experience that if the upload speed is left uncapped, when you have someone who can download from your connection at your full upload speed, it will affect your connection.
When I had Annex M with Eclipse, I capped my upload speed to 150kB/s. My connection was set to give me around 2.3mb.
