I don't think that it's the router as I've checked the settings and no sites are being blocked.

The site is actually being blocked on four machines now (2 laptops, 1 desktop and a phone) so I don't think that it's the individual settings on a particular computer. The desktop has recently been repaired and so wasn't part of the network when the problem first occurred but when I did set it up and connected it the site was still blocked.

I'm therefore really stumped! It seems like it's a problem with the router blocking all traffic to one specific site (everything else is accessible) but the router doesn't show as blocking any sites.

One thing, I think that the router has a button on it that restores factory settings (I'm at work at present so can't physically see it) - would it be worth giving that a go?

The DNS in the Sky router is pre-set and all devices connected to it will use the same DNS servers. To overcome this you have to set up the DNS severs on each machine which will then over-ride the router setting. I would try setting the address on one PC and see if it makes a difference.

Resetting the router can sometimes cure blips so it is worth trying if nothing else is working. Remember this will wipe any personal settings you have put in such as passwords and ports forwarding, so back up your settings before you reset, this will help return the router to its previous state without having to do it manually..

Thanks for this - I will give it a try this evening.

Someone else suggested that I run traceroute (How to Use the Traceroute Command) and this gave the following response:

"Unable to resolve target system name rpol.net"

So it seems like the Sky DNS is not able to locate RPoL's registered entries for some reason. Is that something that Sky should be able to fix if I call customer support or do I need to set up the DNS servers as you outlined above?

I would suggest you try manually putting the DNS servers into one PC and see if it works. It only takes a couple of minutes and will help confirm if it is the problem. Remember to reboot your PC after making the changes to ensure they are being applied. You could alternately use the flush DNS command if you are happy using the command prompt.


Just had another thought. Some sites are reluctant to connect to Sky's 2.xxx.xxx.x addresses. Can you check your IP address?

Well I'm on a 2.120.x.x IP address , with the Sky DNS servers & I have no problems connecting or using traceroute.

If you are able to connect to RolePlay onLine! Welcome to RPoL that would rule out that potential problem. Very few servers now are refusing the '2' addresses.

The page cannot be displayed.
