Speed STILL Dropping After BT Visit!
So if anyone would like the background to this thread, here's the thread I made to try to find the cause of the problem with my connection speeds;
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...d-problem.html
Thanks to everyone who helped btw. I thought we had it sorted, but my luck lasted a mere few days.
After BTs visit we were getting a solid 1604 down, which translated to about 1.3MB. Nothing spectacular, but it was a whole new world compared to the 128kbps I was getting beforehand. I've bin doing daily checks to see if our connection changes, and it has. Yesterday it dropped to around 1400kbps, and today it's dropped to 1347kbps. Here are my current stats;
System Up Time: 145:59:52
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 2935629 5117994 0 563 2209 97:37:54
LAN 100M/Full 8315079 4708477 0 4350 783 145:59:47
WLAN 11M/54M 347369 214139 0 812 31 145:59:34
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1347 kbps 413 kbps
Line Attenuation 69 db 44 db
Noise Margin 9 db 13 db
The download attenuation has only increased by one, would that be why it's dropped? We haven't changed anything in our setup since the BT visit. We have a new wireless laptop, but that was used for the first time today. I know this may seem too small for some people to consider a problem, but with a connection like mine, every kb counts haha. Also, I've noticed that my connection starts to fall off over a few days, so this seems to be doing the same.
Please help!

Re: Speed STILL Dropping After BT Visit!
Your sync hasn't dropped in 90+ hours. Reboot the router and you'll likely see it at 1.6mbps.

Note that all the second Speedtest.net results were done after only one reboot. I also noticed that even though I eventually got 1.6MB (which is the highest I've ever seen on my live) that the down speed on the stats stayed at the same (1587kbps). After I wrote that last sentence, I took another test. I'm getting 1.3MB again. Was there just a glitch in the amount of overhead or something?

Did you ask them to try your line on G.DMT? If so did they just fob you off and say it would not matter?

Re: Speed STILL Dropping After BT Visit!
Ah right ok.
I'm on the phone to them atm, just got put through to the higher level of customer service. I asked the woman if she could try my line on G.DMT but she didn't really get what I was saying, hence why I'm waiting to talk to the higher level. I'll update the thread after I'm done.
Well the woman I was speaking to originally picked up the phone and told me she got the people to try my line to G.DMT. I asked if it was possible to increase my upload aswell,.she told me they tried increasing 'everything'.
Here's my stats after the line switch;
System Up Time: 22:24:57
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 1176072 2138356 0 970 17318 22:24:30
LAN 100M/Full 2153179 1195465 0 17823 1355 22:24:52
WLAN 11M/54M 6611 0 0 7 0 22:24:40
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1760 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 63 db 31 db
Noise Margin 7 db 14 db
The download speed is the highest I've seen on my line, dunno what it'll translate into actual speeds though, about 1.5MB I'm guessing? But the upload has stayed the same. I noticed my down noise margin is at a consistent 7db now, that's good for Sky right? Actually, there doesn't seem to be any fluctuation in anything now, before there'd be maybe a 1db fluctuation in my noise margin or attenuation. Does this mean my line is more stable on G.DMT?

Noise Margin 8 db 9 db
Maybe my line is less stable on G.DMT? I mentioned that the noise margin wasn't changing any more in my last post, but that was just for the first few hours. It started fluctuating between from 7db, then down to 5db at some points.
Anyone know what I should do? My line started slowing on both ADSL2+ and G.DMT...

Re: Speed STILL Dropping After BT Visit!
I decided to leave the router on to see if the speeds change, here's my stats now;
System Up Time: 40:31:05
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 927 923 0 8 11 05:51:26
LAN 100M/Full 3377139 2255996 0 20739 1468 40:31:00
WLAN 11M/54M 10666 0 0 7 0 40:30:48
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1696 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 63 db 31 db
Noise Margin 7 db 14 db
It's back up to around 1.7MB, just a few kbps less than it was before. I'll update if things start changing again.

Re: Speed STILL Dropping After BT Visit!
It looks like your line is suffering from a lot of noise at night. Reboot and see what you get. I think the fact that your line got its best speed with the default noise margin shows that G.DMT is probably the best setting, but the line is just not good enough and like many, suffers from excessive night time noise.

Re: Speed STILL Dropping After BT Visit!
Damn. I just found out about the difference in kilobytes and kilobits, so my maximum transfer rate or whatever, is 212kb. But even then, when I download something the rate varies wildly. Is there any way I can max out the speed at all times?

Re: Speed STILL Dropping After BT Visit!
So the weather has bin bad today which normally effects the 'net, and today it dropped to around 444kbps. So first, I rebooted the router. It had been on about 60 hours. It stayed at the same speed (~444kbps) then sunk to zero, now it's at the highest I've seen it yet;
System Up Time: 00:07:01
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 4509 4232 0 1550 10221 00:06:35
LAN 100M/Full 5039 5435 0 10338 2084 00:06:56
WLAN 11M/54M 126 0 0 31 0 00:06:44
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1824 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 63 db 31 db
Noise Margin 7 db 14 db
Is it faster because they're trying to make up for the interruption the weather is causing?
Oh, and would DLM help now? Since my line appears to be more stable on G.DMT?
