Re: New sky broadband - Very Slow!
Ive been looking to see if there are any patterns to my noise margin (becoming slightly obsessed tbh) using routerstats, as sometimes it can go up and down. The noise margin seems to be averaging about 12db but Ive noticed that if I use the phone it goes up to about 23db & then goes slowly back down. Is this normal, when the engineer comes on friday I was going to tell him what ive noticed but dont want to look completly stupid!

Re: New sky broadband - Very Slow!
The engineer came, changed the wiring in my house & did some work at the cabinet. The noise margin was then stable at 30! I called sky who put me back on dlm for 10 days but have increased my speed for now, here are my stats, thanks for all the helpful advice!!

Re: New sky broadband - Very Slow!
If your router does not resync in the early hours, phone Sky again and ask them to configure your line for its best speed. They have a habit of saying one thing and doing another. Although it may work at times, I have seldom seen DLM working properly when started at a higher speed than 4 Mb, .

Re: New sky broadband - Very Slow!
The Line Attenuation has shot up, but that could have been a result of the line being a problem. Hopefully someone who knows more about telephone lines will comment.
Providing all goes well, you should now be able to get a 9-10Mb connection according to the tool on this site.
SkyUser - Potential ADSL2 Line Speed Checker & Calculator
As Tom has suggested, do give Sky a friendly call. Provided the person has access to the correct systems, they should be able to manually configure your connection. If they refuse (or can't) hang up & call again.
Post the figures here once completed as occasionally some do forget the upstream connection too.

Re: New sky broadband - Very Slow!
On the third time of ringing I finally got somewhere. I kept being told my line couldnt take anymore than 7.5mb and was then told I would have to be put on GDMT, the rep then went off and somehow got it on 12mbs! He swears he couldnt get the upstream any higher though as my line couldnt take it, although he did also say that about my downstream which doesnt seem to be true. My noise margin can drop to 5.5db now, will my speeds go down because of this? Here are my stats

Re: New sky broadband - Very Slow!
That is certainly looking a lot healthier.
If you are happy with that then great. I would still suggest that there may be a little more room in the upstream connection though.
The 7dB Noise Margin target applies to both sides (up & down).

Re: New sky broadband - Very Slow!
I would like a bit more upstream speed but was made to feel a bit greedy for asking for more so I will leave it a week or two then ask again!! Thanks again for your help!
