DLM finished, speed not as expected

Hi all

I moved in to my current house on 30th September and my Sky B/B was activated on 11th October.

DLM started and speed was 4mb for a couple of days the went to 6.1 mb where it stayed up until yesterday.

Yesterday, having read a load of posts here, I changed the filter on the phone socket to a brand new one which was supplied by Sky.

Now my stats are as below:

My letter from Sky told me to expect between 10 and 16 mb line speed. Before I changed the filter my noise margin was around 4.0db

The router is plugged in to the main house socket in the hall (where the line comes in to the house) and is connected to the phone socket by the grey lead supplied by Sky.

Do I need to contact Sky to get them to start DLM again or will the line gain speed over the next few days/weeks?

You should do much better. Please plug into the Test socket if you have one and post your stats
How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

If you do not have a test socket, remove everything you have plugged into the phone circuit in every room, except the router and take your stats.

There's your problem -

These figures show your internal wiring is interfering with your broadband. Buy, fit and use a filtered faceplate and your problem will be solved, your speed will about double.

The wiring from the test socket to the normal socket is 3 coloured wires.

Is it those that are causing the problm?

I have ordered the faceplate you suggested.

That is the wires going to your extensions. These should be connected to the same numbered terminals on the filtered faceplate.

Hopefully the faceplate will turn up tomorrow (it has been dispatched) and I can crank up the speed.

Will my line speed go up automatically or do I need to ring Sky?

You will need to ring Sky to get the cap lifted. Tell them you have made improvements to your phone wiring and would like your line reconfigured. If the first one says you can't get any more, keep calling till you get one with more than air between their ears.
