Sky broadband connect Throttling / capped for over usage
Hello all.
I have had broadband connect for approx 3 weeks. This week I download a couple of games from steam and Mac os Lion and clocked up 20GBs of download in 2 days. Which I thought was ok. Later I found out that I was only every aloud to use 1.3GB a day.
I was told by two things by two different sky tech people. 1 I would be capped at 256k between 5pm and12 for 10 days, and the other said the cap would last 3 months. Does anyone one know the facts about how long this cap lasts.
The cap is meant to have been set by BT and they are saying they can not do anything about it . Which leads to my next question
if I get out of this sky contract and join PlusNet will this cap be still in place because BT have put the cap on.
Thanks in advance everyone.

Re: Sky broadband connect Throttling / capped for over usage
Plusnet appear to handle their capping policy much better than Sky and are upfront about how it will be applied. In some of their packages the limits only apply during peak hours, you can download as much as you want outside this period, between midnight and 8am. This means you can schedule downloads out with your allowance.. Sky's policy of capping if you use more than 1.3Gb a day at any time is ridiculous. It makes use of the connection nearly impossible as you have demonstrated. It makes using the full allowance nigh on impossible. The fact is BT only apply the cap because Sky will not pay for more.

Re: Sky broadband connect Throttling / capped for over usage
There will be no cap on your line if you move to another ISP, that only applies to Sky.

Re: Sky broadband connect Throttling / capped for over usage
There is no mention of this in the T & Cs, but they do cover themselves by having this included -
In addition, we monitor customers who use the most bandwidth and whose usage is having a negative effect on other customers. Customers who breach the Usage Cap or who regularly download large amounts at peak times will have restrictions placed on their accounts to reduce their download speeds at peak times. Only a small number of customers will be affected by this, typically fewer than 5%. We remove these restrictions when our network is not busy.
You can try talking to Customer Services about a rebate, but I have my doubts if they will give you one.
