timc, Your tone is a little harsh..
Some people have no idea which package is better than the other, so have some respect.

Re: Joined Sky in August, my speed is horrible!
Right Okay, you wish to stay away from a non-LLU provider...
Based on the information provided, Sky, TalkTalk, and AOL in your exchange do not provide LLU services. Pipex is now TalkTalk, but business related.. TalkTalk would offer you their own service which would be much the same..
Unfortunately, switching may not guarantee the faster speeds. As timc does state, your line is now based on profiles.. which is BT's form of DLM.. Speeds are in groups, BT drop the amount available for connection reliability. this means your speed on your router sync (576kbps) will provide a speed of 500kbps.
This will then reduce as it travels to your home. How to get your router statistics

With regards to using my Linksys router, is this possible? It would make the internet more bearable if it wasn't disconnecting in some rooms around the house due to losing the signal.

Right, from what I can see there, BT provide out of the exhcnage, 350kpbs, which will decrease a fair bit on a line your length - therefore you're seeing those small speeds.
It may be possible, but I have not done it myself with the D-Link.How to get your router statistics

Re: Joined Sky in August, my speed is horrible!
The line is set to Home/Office 500, which is limited to a MAXIMUM of 500KB/sec down. Sky can have this changed to ADSL Max (up to 8Mbps) which is what it should be on for the Connect package.
However, the Connect package is widely known as probably the WORST broadband package currently available and with you being on a long line you're never going to get great speeds.
You have 2 options:
1. Get Sky to have BT reprofile the line and see what you get, but still have terrible speed during evenings/weekends; or
2. Move to another ISP that will shape your connection better so you can make the most of what you have-------------------------------------------

Re: Joined Sky in August, my speed is horrible!
By all means you are welcome to keep trying to get a better connection speed with the line you have, but unfortunately you would have more success if you stood facing a brick wall and mimic a Dippy Bird.
Your current Line Attenuation is about as high as that router reports. The Noise Margin of 7.1dB indicates that you are not going to get much better on an ADSL1 connection.
There are currently over 2 Million Sky BB customers on Sky BB Connect. It is badly throttled and poorly managed. If you go over the 1.3Gb daily maximum too many times in a week then you get throttled to the equivalent of dial-up speeds.

The best suggestion I can make is to dump Connect in your case as you apparently have no LLU providers at your exchange. Whilst PlusNet is owned by BT, it is currently coming up trumps on most reviews. Do search around though and check which package will best meet your requirements.

Having re-read this, I agree with Scubbie on the PlusNet choice.
