Internet keeps dropping connection, please help!

I might be able to get another generic psu off my dad that would work on Monday, but I don't know anyone who has another router that I could borrow to try. My uncle who is an independent sky installer has an old sky router from 2 years ago that has never been opened, would it be worth trying that?

Definitely.

Sky very rarely lock out a router from their servers and any Sky router will work on your connection.

Worse case scenario: Your Uncle's spare router doesn't work or he doesn't let you try it

That is good then, I will see if I can get hold of it Monday. From 1pm today till now I have had 70 connection drops

Hmm my latest drop was interesting, even the system up time reset. Anyone know what that could mean?

I think that further suggests that your router, or PSU, is on its way out. As the system time reset, that indicates a reboot or a reset, which should not happen without user input.

I will be getting hold of another router to try in the week sometime, hopefully that will fix the problem!

BT engineer has just left and was much more helpful than the last one. He ran all his test and explained that the line was coming back as 3 green lights on their traffic light system to say the line was good. He then checked the cable outside on the wall, came back in and fitted me a new faceplate with the filter built in. He went to the exchange to check all was well there and made a few adjustments. He is recommending sky send me a new router also to eliminate that potential problem. All in all he was 100 times more helpful than the engineer that came last week. Looking at router stats lite my noise margin is so much more stable now with the filtered faceplate, before it would fluctuate by 3 db every poll, now it is barely moving from 15db. I will continue to monitor the connection and post some updates on it. Fingers crossed it is going to be ok now.

So if the line is looking more stable, then he must have done something good for your line then.

As for the router, I though that you were going to 'borrow' one from your Uncle. This should identify any outstanding issues.

I think I spoke too soon, internet has gone off 6 times in the past 15 minutes I will be borrowing that one but I didn't want to try it before the BT engineer came as I wanted him to see the set up as it was whilst doing all this connection dropping.

My dad is getting it tonight for me and I will pick it up tomorrow! Just a quick thing, last night my internet stayed on all night, no drops at all, it was syncing at 1800 (ish) now it is syncing higher since the bt man has been, 3000(ish) now 2656 exactly as it syncs lower every time it drops. Why does it seem to be more stable when syncing lower, and is there anyway I can force it to sync lower?
