New activation: initial stats and tweaking

Hi all, I have finally been activated on Sky Unlimited and am plugged in to the test socket with my D-Link 2640S, below are my initial stats and I'd very much appreciate some of your collective wisdom!

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.5db 19.0db
Noise Margin 17.1db 13.0db

(I'm just over 1km from the exchange)

Now obviously DLM will be running, but I'm unsure how to interpret my Attenuation and Noise Margin figures...Line Attenuation looks good no?

I remember you asking a few days ago what kit you will be on.

Well you are on the Easynet DSLAM. Your line is currently on G.DMT. Your attenuation will go up to between 30.5-31.5 when you are switched to ADSL2+.

You should be able to get a sync of 13-14 Mb once DLM is over.

Correct, my 'second hop' is to Easynet, I will wait for the DLM to complete and then I may trouble this forum for any advice on improving my speed/connection quality. Phone engineer is coming tomorrow to fix the internal wiring in my flat (only the master socket works and none of the others when faceplate attached (plus a few sockets are broken).
I'm on PPOA but was hoping to be on MER so it would be easier to use my own Vigor 120 and router!

MER is not available yet on the Easynet DSLAM. You should be able to connect fine using your Vigor 120 modem using PPPOA along with the extracted username and password.

Many are finding it is not as easy connecting with MER as it should be. Sky appear to be using a non standard setup.

Thanks Exdee and Isitme, 'unfortunately' my D-Link router is dead (crashed updating firmware) so I've just been on the phone to Sky and they are sending me a replacement, the chap was reasonably optimistic I'd receive the new model so once received I'll have a play around with that.
I wasn't able to extract my username/password and Sky wouldn't give it to me so I'm stuck without BB until the new one arrives!

Have your tried to reinstall the firmware by putting the router in recovery mode?

To enter recovery mode you are supposed to hold the reset button while plugging in the power supply. Then flash it using the utility that came on the cd.

Yes I did try all methods to get into the router to flash/recover the firmware but nothing; in any case I'm being sent a replacement so not too fussed about the 'dead' one!

OK, I'm now back online with a replacement router (the same D-Link unfortunately) and DLM has started (11th August). I've copied below some stats from over the past few days and would welcome any thoughts!

Are you still in the Test socket behind the faceplate? If you are, things are not looking too good. I would have expected 12-14 Mb with your attenuation, but it does not look like you will get anywhere near that. Can you check that any other phone sockets you have do not have a dial tone?
