Broadband connection intermittent

Hi there,

Over the past week the quality of my Sky Broadband connection has been terrible... It'll work fine for 5 minutes, and they strangely switch off the next.

I've looked at the logs and found something which might explain this problem. I've included an extract of the Router logs below:

As you can see, for some reason the ADSL link goes down every 2 minutes of so. I have no idea why. Also, there seems to be a "Failed to access" error in there.

I've phoned Sky multiple times about this, to which they responded "Everything looks fine on our end, it shows you're getting 10MB download speeds etc". I then phoned them again today, told them about the ADSL issues and now they've forwarded my problem to 2nd Line Support and said I'd receive a phone call in 72 hours. Which I very much doubt.

Any of you guys have any ideas what would explain this? Faulty router? Or the Line?

sky use ipv4 or are they now trying out ipv6?

my download speed has been all over the place tonight, 1mbps then 3mbps then 4mbps, something is not right, i couldn't even play on my ps3 without it disconnecting and getting poor speeds, can not even buffer a 3 minute video on youtube.

Always used IPv4.

They issued a DLM request out when I phoned them last night, don't know if that pushed some config out.

There was ALOT of noise on the line. Crackling, tones, beeps the lot. I don't see how Sky can't pick this up?

Have you tried your router in the test socket, without the phone connected?

Sky should be able to tell if there is a fault, as they can see all the errors picked up on the line by the router, and the SNR.
If there is a lot of errors and a lot of re-syncs then it shows there is a fault

The SNR shows if the line is about to disconnect, if you post your stats when connected, before it does not disconnect i can tell you straight away if there is a fault, 7db it should be at, any lower than 6 after a reboot shows there is a fault.

That sounds like bleed through, try the router directly in the test socket with no phones connected.
