Loss of speed
Hi, Sky Broadband Unlimited customer here, been with Sky BB for a couple of years now and I'm very happy with the service considering what I've experienced from other ISPs.
When I first signed up to Sky some extremely helpful chappy on the other end of the phone did some tweaking and got my connection up to about 1700 kbps, nearly twice as much as I was getting from BT. About 2 or 3 months ago my connection dropped down to 1100 kbps, and has stopped around there. I don't know why, but it came shortly after a temporary outage in the area, if that has any relevance.
My stats, connected to a filtered faceplate on the master-socket, are:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1169 kbps 550 kbps
Line Attenuation 63 db 21.5 db
Noise Margin 7 db 8 db
I realise I'm stuck in long line hell, so I'm not expecting any miracles, but getting that extra 600k back would be nice. Every little helps!
My questions are:
#1 - Why have I lost that speed, and is there anything I can do about it?
#2 - If I phone Sky Customer Services and attempt to explain this am I likely to make any headway, or am I just going to end up with some herbert sat reading the script on his screen?
Cheers!

Re: Loss of speed
Are these stats from your test socket? If not post your stats from your test socket.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket
Regardless you will have to ring Sky and ask them to put you on G.DMT. Tell them you have a longer line and G.DMT will be more stable on it. You will see an increase in speed once they switch you over.

Re: Loss of speed
Hi all, this may not be in the correct part of the forum, but I'm new here and a bit of a technophobe. Last friday my sky broadband started to slow down (25min to download a video 4min 11 sec at 05.00 hrs ) by monday no improvment, so I had a go at some speed checks (Ping 95m/s Download 0.13 mbps Upload 0.28 mbps) This didn't sound to fast to me so I rang Sky and after 1/2 hour on the phone with someone I could hardly understand I was told it's the best I will get and it's my computer that is at fault, I explaned that I had swapped computers with a mate 10 miles down the road and mine ran fine his ran crap with the same speeds as above. Can anyone help please?

Re: Loss of speed
Start a new thread for yourself and post your router stats from the test socket in it.
