Desktop won't connect, laptop will
Hi all,
New user here and really frustrated by this issue. I've move into a friends house and brought my pc. I bought a wireless adapter for the pc which initially worked fine. Then a few days later it stopped working, and now I have intermittent connectivity. When it is connected, sometimes the internet is painfully slow (like 1kB/s) however the odd time it connects and is fine.
On the otherhand the laptop is connecting fine, and even does so with the wireless adapter from the pc. Any help?

You should return your faulty wifi adaptor for a refund under guarantee.

Can you edit your post and remove your IP and other sensitive info (admin might do it first though).

To check that your software or malware is not slowing you down, start in Safe Mode with Networking and check the download speed here- Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester

Re: Desktop won't connect, laptop will
Hi all, thanks for the responses. I edited out mac, gateway and ip addresses from the first post. I've just tried safe mode and networking, still no joy, the pc won't connect at all to the internet. Simply goes to the cannot connect dialog box. Driver for it is up to date, can't seem to find older ones on the belkin site. Any other ideas?

Re: Desktop won't connect, laptop will
Another thing you could try is to plug it into another USB hub, most PCs have more than one hub. Even plugging it into another USB socket may help.
When the adapter is plugged in, does it show as properly installed in the Device Manager? Is it showing up properly in the LAN adapters?
What result do you get when you open a Command Prompt and type ipconfig /all Does it get a proper IP, ie, one beginning 192.168?

Re: Desktop won't connect, laptop will
So, the saga of annoying internet service continues. After lots and lots of fiddling about, I updated my mobo firmware and it's now connecting to the internet fine. That's that area sorted.
However, I'm just wondering if sky in any way shapes traffic/interferes with it? The reason I'm asking is that I notice that after uploading a substantial amount of data (say 1gb,) for the nest few hours I cannot play starcraft 2 without continually lagging on it (it is a realtime strategy game btw). It's not a problem with the ports, I've double checked all are opened etc. Also, it doesn't happen all the time. Perhaps I'm just hitting some limits on peak times? I know virgin do this if you up/download heavily during peak hours. Is that the issue?
ps, on the upside at least I'm online, at long last. Seems that the issue was with belkin/msi...

Re: Desktop won't connect, laptop will
It might be worth checking for other possibilities (i.e. hardware or connection stats).
In the past I have had to reset a router or computer, after it had been on for several days, in order to regain the throughput speed.
This hasn't happened recently though. I've changed the network card in the desktop that played up & I'm using a different router.
