Re: Need a new router
Thanks for that
If I get a new N router (or use Sky's soon-to-be-released N router)., will it work on my current laptop and PC? They are both g standard and won't work on n.
I have managed to extract my username and password from the router.
Wayne.

Re: Need a new router
N is backward compatible with G so you will not have a problem.

Re: Need a new router
Is it worth upgrading my laptop (it's a Dell so won't be easy) to N standard and getting a N standard PCI card for the PC?

Re: Need a new router
N is overrated. You don't need it unless you find that 'G' has insufficient signal strength around your house or if you are into transferring files regularly via wifi between your devices.

Re: Need a new router
Right, cheers for that.
Well, as Sky supply Sagem, I refuse to accept their replacement for £28 because from reviews I read about it, it's crap.
I am about to pop into PC World and get a new router and input the extracted username and password into it.
Is there a specific router that is recommended? Which Netgear?

Re: Need a new router
Copy and paste your trace route stats first. (Go to CMD -> type 'tracert bbc.co.uk')
These will give an indication of what chipset is better suited to your line.

Re: Need a new router
You are looking for a router with a broadcom chipset.
There are plenty of broadcom based Netgear routers out there but if you are looking into tweaking your connection speed a Billion 7700N/7800N would be better suited.
Just make sure you google what chipset your router has before you buy it.

Re: Need a new router
I don't mean to jump in on this post, but how can you tell by looking at that tracert what type of router is best for your line?
