Sky sorted my line but killed my ping
Afternoon all
I have finally had my line sorted by sky and i must admit i am kinda happy with the stats i am currently getting. I was told i had been moved onto g.dmt and my network type was moved from mer to pppoa
Downstream 3072kbps
upstream 416kbps
noise margin
downstream 8.0
upstream 16.0
The only problem being this seems to have killed my ping. This is the test i just ran gave me this
Before sky started playing with my line i was getting a ping of around 45-55ms my connection stats were
2649kpbs downstream
415 upstream
Noise margin
7.5 downstream
9.0 upstream
Any idea why my ping has taken such a hit?

Re: Sky sorted my line but killed my ping
Ping has gone up because they have increased the interleaving depth. Ask them to put you on the Gamer profile.

Re: Sky sorted my line but killed my ping
Cheers exdee the only problem with that is whenever they have put me on a gaming profile before its dropped my downstream to 2046kpbs and the upstream will more a less stay the same mind you that would have been when i was running adsl2 maybe now im on gdmt it might be a little better? I have asked some of the agents i spoke to before if i could have my max delay lowered and they have no clue what i mean
This is with the sagemcom router i forgot to mention
EDIT
Just spoke to one guy who told me to run a virus scan to sort the issue lol i worry where they get some of these people from i really do

Re: Sky sorted my line but killed my ping
Make sure you ask them to put you on a greater then 4MB profile that has max delays at 8. Your line will sync at the best of it's ability.
As you are aware yourself most of the staff at Sky is under trained. You will have to keep on pushing them till you find the right person.
And before you start conduct a ping test to bbc.co.uk via CMD and make note of the figures. When your line is re-configured conduct another for comparison.

Re: Sky sorted my line but killed my ping
Its bloody amazing what speaking to someone that knows what you are talking about can do. The lady i spoke to was so helpfull and new exactly what i was after, she called the cst team and informed me that my max delay was now set to 8ms and my ping to bbc.co.uk is now 33ms and on the pingtest its showing 48ms which is pretty much what i was getting before so very happy now. Upload has been increased to
downstream 3022kbps
upstream 604kbps
noise margin
downstream 7.6
upstream 10.7
