help needed again
i had a speed drop on my bb connection see my other thread
i thought it was fixed big thanks to isitme for the help
i emailed sky the other day to lower my ping for gaming
heres the email
Dear Mr findlay
Thank you for contacting Sky Help Centre.
I have gone into your account to change your Max delay to 8 as requested but this is what it is sitting at, I have noticed a lot off errors on your line which could be causing problems. Here are the errors and the time it has taken to get them
Total Errors: 7242
Over The Period: 8 hours 18 minutes
CRC Snapshot: 220992
The CRC errors indicate that your router is plugged into an extension socket rather than the master socket. If you address this problem it should then speed up your line.
I hope this helps with your enquiry.
Kind regards
Sheena

i was running an extension in to my living room to my router mainly for pc and xbox360
should i try pluging the router in to the master socket ?
i have the older style master plate with just one connection and behind that the test socket
what face plate would i be better getting as i am just going to run an ethernet cable to see if the speed picks up again

Re: help needed again
You are always better running from the master socket than an extension.
If you only have one socket in the property you should connect to it with an ADSL filter with the router directly into it, then run ethernet from there to your PC etc.

How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket
Using one of these will give you the full potential of your line.

Re: help needed again
You running an extension cable to the router, or using the short grey cable Sky provided?

Re: help needed again
4-5Mbps is about right for that attenuation

Re: help needed again
resetted to router this morning at 4am before going to work finshed work and check stats big improvment on speed
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6797 kbps 874 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.5 db 29.2 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 7.5 db
is that noise margin ok or could i expect a bit more speed ??

Re: help needed again
I would expect 6-7 Mb with your attenuation, so I think you are almost there. Forcing more out of the line may destabilise it.
