BB Unlimited speed very low

My BB Unlimited speeds never normally go above 2Mbps. What is the most reliable way of checking speeds as I use http://www.speedtest.net/?

I am connecting my router to the master socket and I have a filter to split BB and phone

Your line is capable of syncing at a higher speed. You can ring Sky and ask them to uncap you.

The whole purpose of this speed test was so that you could see monitor your download speed during the download using your browser. Any way that works out to an average of 155kb/s which is slow for your sync speed.

I am assuming this was done on wireless? Now I want you to connect to your router using an ethernet cable and download the same file again. You should be getting a constant speed in excess of 550 kb/s.

If your speed goes up with the wired connection. Then you will need to change the wireless channel on your router. You can use this inSSIDer to find out what channel is free in your vicinity and set your router to it.

ok. thanks. Unfortunately, my browser does not show me the download speed; just the approximate time remaining.

Run same test using Ethernet and it takes about 20 mins 40 seconds

ok. switched to firefox and shows me a speed of 636-640KB/sec over Ethernet

Speed fluctuates between 200 and 300 KB/sec over WIFI - mostly around 240KB/sec

There you go mate. Just fire up InSSIDer and look for free channels and set your router to one of them and hopefully your wifi speed will match your ethernet download speed.

Alternatively you could go to your router settings and change channels one by one and download something and see what channel gives you the best speed.

Running on Mac and inSSIder is an *.exe file for windows. Something similar for Mac OS X?

Will probably change the channel one by one till i find one that gives me the expected speed. thanks a lot. Would never have crossed my mind that the router is playing games with interference from neighbourhood.

I have scanned using AirRadar and it shows me Signal average/max 51%. Noise ~ 10% and I have the only visible WIFI channel on the particular one I am using.
