Now lets look at this properly in a bureaucratic manner...
BTO Engineer 1 repairs BT connections
BTO Engineer 2 arrives and cannot get access to cabinet, has to return 3 days later
BTO Engineer 1 completes after a couple of days
BTO Engineer 3 arrives and works on another ISP's connections
BTO Engineer 2 returns and finds #2 working, so has to return in another 3 days
BTO Eng #3 completes
BTO Eng #4 arrives & does work for 4th ISP
BTO Eng #2 returns to find #4 working and goes away to return in another 3 days
Need I go on?

Now resolved.got a call back from sky Friday at half one ,did a few checks then told me the line isint connected.said they would get an engineer out .warned me it could take upto 72 hours..12 hours later the dial tone is back and broadband working fine .turns out the green street cabinet is not bt but virgin.and the damage was unrelated.1st time iv had to get a fault sorted and was expecting a knightmare judging by some of the post on forums.good work sky + bt

I'm glad that it is all sorted for you now.
The truth is that the majority of issues are resolved promptly.
It would be true to say that some of the quirks come up on the forums from time to time though. For example there are a large number of staff who don't know how to adjust your line settings and will lie to dump the call by saying it can't be improved.
I also hope that people can help themselves by resolving many common problems by reading through forums like this.

That's my next step.trying to get sky to have a go at lowering my ping.had a bit of a ping increase the last couple of months .prob down to the influx of new sky customers in my area.not sure if that's possible for them to try lowering ping.(excuse the lack of knowledge)

By all means give them a call to see if they can improve your line speed & ping. You may need to call a couple of time and please do post your stats afterwards as some can make it worse.
As for your speed being affected by the number of people on the Sky equipment in your area, this is unlikely. Earlier this year there were some problems with Sky's backhaul, but this was resolved. It reduced some areas of the country at peak periods and coincided with the take up of Anytime+.

Just did a few test and it seems a bit slow compared to before.will look into it further
