I was getting a download of 14 meg at one point, I suspect its DLM that has reduced it. I only got activated on 27 of june but have reset my router on more than one occasion as I was connected to a dodgy extension socket. I am now on the master socket with no extensions connected but wonder if my line is good enough for a manual setting for max speed ?

Leave your router in the test socket and ring sky to have it uncapped. Should easily get twice your current speed

Call again. That is BS. Some of the first line of support staff do not have the facilities to change your connection speed, others foul things up.

It may take two or three calls. Once you have been successful, post your stats and someone can let you know if things are alright.

Ok I didnt call again but they upped my speed as you can see above. I was doing a speedtest on speedtest.net last night and I was get 10-12 meg.

Today however Im only getting 5-6 meg with the same stats as above. both tests are wireless. why the change in speeds ?
edit: I just changed my wireless channel to auto scan from 6 and the speed is back up to 11 meg, this also happened last night, why does the channel effect the speed ?

Channels which are less busy in your vicinity will give you more speed. You can use InSSiDer to work out which ones are free.

Ok so going back to my stats , do you think i should be getting better speeds than 10 -12 meg or is there still room for improvement,
Also I play a lot of online games and would like to know if its possible to lower my ping and maybe increase upload speed. luckily enough my PS3 is hardwired to the router.

You should be able to squeeze out a little more to get a sync rate slightly over 14MB. Your upload speed has room for improvement too. As far as the ping is concerned you need to have your max delays lowered to 8 (a.k.a gaming profile).

Having your line configured to its best ability is a bit of hit and miss with Sky. You need to be persistent (keep on ringing back till they do it) or try other means such as email.

Conduct a ping test to bbc.co.uk now and make a note of your ping so that you can compare it to your post gamer profile stats.

totally agree with regards to sky being hit and miss, i spoke to one guy who had no idea what i was saying when i asked him to try my line on g.dmt another one didnt understand what i meant by changing my line profile! I then got thru to someone and had a really good technical chat with them and he new exactly what i was asking pot luck really but as stated above be PERSISTANT!

Thought I'd re-use this thread rather than making a new one. Hope no one minds.

New Sky customer, just wondering if my stats are looking right. I asked Sky to restart the testing process after the initial test was finished because i had to disconnect the router a few times during those 10 days. The second test was restarted last Wednesday and i was told it finished today. My speed doubled from what it was, but i'm still not sure if it's optimal. The estimate i was given was 10-20mb.

I'm plugged into the master socket via a filtered faceplate. Here are the stats:

Connection Speed 8188 kbps 797 kbps
Line Attenuation 37.5 dB 18.8 dB
Noise Margin 7.0 dB 15.6 dB

Should i be expecting much more? Cheers.
