Full wireless connection but no internet
I have 2 sagem routers set up as per scubbies fantastic instructions. All has been great until last night. All of a sudden I had full wireless connection but couldn't get on any internet site.
I spent hours searching on my iphone for different solutions, the error message being that the connection was set up to a 169 ip address. I deleted the connection and set up a new one, which gave a valid ip address but still no internet. restarted both routers, reset both routers, changed settings then changed them back when it didnt work.
I was assuming it was a problem with airport on my mac, but then had the idea to plug in my old windows pc. This was the same, all I was getting was the router home page, checked my iphone on wifi and the same. So definately something to do with the connection or routers.
Then, after about 3 hours it just came back on !!!
Got home tonight and again, full signal but no internet access found by my daughter on her windows pc. Sparked up my mac and ditto.
I went into the kitchen and pressed the reset button for 15 secs on the primary router, then connected my mac to the secondary router in my bedroom, and all is working at the moment.
From the numerous hits on this problem it looks like a very common occurance. I am concerned that I am going to have to reset the router every time I want to use the internet. Has anyone else had the same problem and have a solution, please? Thanks.

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
It sounds more likely that you have an Internet connection issue, rather than a problem with the routers.
Just to confirm, can you access both routers when connected to either one router?
To check whether it is an Internet issue, look at the stats of the router connected to the Internet.
How to get your router statistics
Post them up here if you are unsure about interpreting them. Include the WAN, LAN & WLAN up times. Essentially you are looking to see if you have lost the WAN connection recently.

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
The noise margin is very low for your downstream.
Hopefully someone else can comment, but I suspect that this may well indicate a line problem.
Can you confirm how the primary router is connected to your telephone line?
i.e. which socket, what leads are you using, how is it filtered
Also do you have any extensions?
Can you also perform a quiet line test with a corded telephone please from the test socket?
Dial 17070 and follow the options.
Also dial '1'.
In both cases listen carefully for any hiss, crackling or other noise. The line should be completely silent.

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
Can you also post your stats from the Test socket if you have one, using only the cable supplied by Sky.

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
The primary router is connected via a long cable but it is not a thin one it was the more expensive thick cable as it is a long one. There is a filter with 2 ports, one for the router cable the other a phone port. The filter is plugged directly into the main bt socket with the router cable and a bt doubler plugged into it. Hope that makes sense !!! Will do as you have both suggested when I get home. Thanks.

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
Sorry, not had time to do the tests yet but my signal from the second router has improved. Unfortunately OH has told me he can't access the primary router apparently it keeps saying there is another computer with this ip address. I am not that hot on ip address problems, but I have been to whatismyipaddress.com and get the same address, but I'm not sure if its the routers or laptops address. It starts 97.7.xxx.xxx if thats the correct format. Do I need to assign a static IP address to his laptop? Thanks.
