Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
Thanks for the reply. I am just trying to get the first router up and running and an internet connection at the moment, I have disconnected my whole system down to the first router connected to the bt socket and mains only!!!
I get a bit confused with the different IPv's.
configure IPv4 options are:- using DCHP, using DCHP with manual address, using bootp and manually
configure IPv6 options are:- automatically, manually and link-local only
Do I select 'manually' on both? And which is the subnet and which is the gateway? This is on my macbook air. I also have a laptop running windows 7 if that is easier?
(My sil has an old sky router which has lost the wireless but works on cable, I am taking this home, so hopefully will at least have a connection this evening!!!)

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
First check if you have ADSL on your line. A green @ light means you have and it is connected. Orange means it has ADSL but you are not connected.
It would be easier using the Windows laptop. Plug it in and see if you get an address. If you don't, right click the network icon in the tray and select 'Troubleshoot problems'
You could also try using your 2nd router as the main one. Plug it into the internet and see if it connects(green light) If it does, change all the setting back to default. To do this simply press and hold the reset button on the back for about 20-30 seconds.
If both routers fail and your sisters does too, then it is a line problem.

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
Well done!
Kind of unusual for the two to have failed like that.

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
Thanks scubbie and isitme.
Yes, I thought that, keep wondering if it was something i've done wrong in the settings or something. Don't know how they would both lose their IP address.
Anyway, up and running with the netgear which is I believe supposed to be better than the sagem, which has always had rubbish signal. If the netgear signal is ok I will use this until the new sky router is available.
Do you think the new sky sagem 2504n is worth buying or is there a better n rated router out there for your money???? I have extracted my router passwords.
It would be nice to have a router with a decent coverage so that piggy backing isn't necessary.

Re: Full wireless connection but no internet
It is hard to comment on this new router at present.
I've just spent over an hours looking through (and answering some) the posts on the Sky forum and could find no mention of this new router.
This could be seen as a good thing as it means it is working better than the Sagem 2304n.
It also means that information about it is limited until further notice.

Re: Full wireless connection but no Internet
That's a difficult question.
It might be that the build of you house would prevent most routers from covering it all anyway.
To be fair you would need to search the different reviews for different routers for comparative information.
To help you to narrow it down, it would have to be a router that is rated full WiFi n. I would suggest that such a router should also be capable of at least 300Mb over the WiFi, even if your current devices don't support this speed yet.
On a personal suggestion, whilst there have been some issues, I quite like the DGND3700. It supports 300Mb over both the 2.4GHz channels & 5Ghz channels. It also has both ADSL & Ethernet WAN (for FTTC/P & cable) connections.
Currently it doesn't work with Sky's MER, but taking the alternative WAN issues into account, it is possible to use the Sky router effectively as a modem & use the DGND3700 as your Internet access point.
