Newbie & New Sky BB
Howdie all.
Just trying to clear up a few issues, that may be non issues but I need to put my mind at ease...anyway here we go;
Firstly, Sky BB was activated yesterday in the house after transferring the account from the old flat. We've been told that we can realistically achieve 10-12mb. According to Kitz I'm 1.83km (direct) and 2.25km (road) from the exchange.
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 510 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.5 db 19.6 db
Noise Margin 14.8 db 22.0 db
I'm led to believe there will be a period of time where the line settles, how long would this be? And given the stats re attenuation above, are sky on the money when they say between 10-12mb speed?
Secondly, the test socket and where the router is plugged in is unfortunately at the other end of the room to where I need it ideally (so I can plug in HTPC, Sky box & Xbox). What is going to be best way to achieve the extension?
Thanks in advance for help!

Re: Newbie & New Sky BB
You should have been advised in your activation letter that your line would start at 4Mb and would be subject to up to 10 days DLM line training. You should get 10-12Mb as advised. Do not disconnect your router during the 10 day period.
How far is the main socket from where you want to place your router? If it is within 10m, then a good quality ADSL cable would allow you to plug into the main socket and place the router where you want it. Yoou could also consider placing the router by the main socket and using an ethernet cable to connect to a 4 or 8 port switch.

Re: Newbie & New Sky BB
My Mrs binned it so I didn't get chance to see that! Unfortunately I have disconnected it to put it into the test socket this morning. Will I have messed things up?
Its less than 10m across the room, but I would have to run a wire along the skirting and above a door so it probably works out at approx 10m+, just. I do have a lengthy 30m ethernet cable, so a 4 port switch might be a more viable option.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Newbie & New Sky BB
I would not worry too much so early in the training period, you will find your router will resync around 2-3am and raise your speed. Sometimes this can take 3 days to start, but usually its within the first 1 or 2 night.
