Migrating from Talk Talk to Sky
Hi
I will be changing to Sky unlimited from Talk Talk sometime next month.
Was just wondering if anyone has done this changeover and was it painless or full of woe?
Is there anything i need to get from Talk Talk to make it run smoother?
I was with Sky before but got talked into moving to Talk Talk
I know the exchange i am on is LLU capable.
Thanks
edit:- Sorry put in wrong place. Can Admin move to "broadband help" please.

Re: Migrating from Talk Talk to Sky
Moving from one LLU provider to another can be very painful, sorry there is not much you can do about it. You may be without phone or broadband for a couple of weeks.

Oh blimey, isitme, I hope sky keep their prices competitive and I don't have to go through that then !

Re: Migrating from Talk Talk to Sky
In fairness results vary.
Whilst your phone may be connected promptly, your telephone may take a further two weeks.
Should you wish to keep your old number, Ofcom regulations state that this should be possible. You may need to write to both TalkTalk & Sky in order for this to happen.

Re: Migrating from Talk Talk to Sky
A word of warning:
Talktalk are pretty notorious for not doing as they are told regarding people leaving. We had all sorts of trouble with them when we switched. They even tried to claim we had just started an 18 month contract with them (which we hadn't as we switched in 2009 and joined them (TT) on a 12 month contract in 2006...). On top of that, we were almost forced to get an unwanted and unneeded BT line as it was "their policy to do so" even though we stated time and time again we were going onto sky LLU and not BT. It got so bad they sent an engineer round without informing us to activate the BT line which we hadn't asked for or needed.
Eventually we informed sky who just took over and all was sorted and everything was set up within a matter of days. During that though, we had no internet nor phone. It felt like being back in the stone ages!!! Sky did refund all the call charges though from mobiles so it wasn't too bad.
I have heard similar tales of woe from other people who were switching from TT as well so be warned

Re: Migrating from Talk Talk to Sky
ok....
I am now ready to change. Need some advice as to what to do first.
I am currently on talktalk LLU.
My exchange is LLU enabled and sky is there.
Exchange is WMCHD.
I would like to keep my phone number.
Would like to move to sky as easily as poss.
Who do i contact first. Sky or talktalk?
Do i have to ask both providers if i want to keep my phone number?
Is it best to do this online or on the phone?
I will be going on to sky unlimited, but what happens if my exchange is full and is there a way to find out how many sky customers are on that exchange already?
If the exchange is full does that mean sky will automatically put me on connect or it's equivalent?
No doubt i will have more questions but i want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.
TIA

Re: Migrating from Talk Talk to Sky
Sky. They will handle thing from there.
Once you have transferred things across, look at cancelling the contract with TalkTalk. remember to pay the final bill (i.e. calls, not line rental, etc.)
Knowing the track record, I would be tempted to put it in writing to BOTH Sky & TalkTalk that you wish to transfer your telephone number from TalkTalk to Sky and put it in the letter that this request should be honoured, as per Ofcom regulations.
It you are seeking to do this to obtain an on-line discount, then it should be done on-line. It depends on which offer you are going to take up.
If you have no offer, contact a friend or family member who has Sky and use them as a referral. They could be eligible for £50 worth of M&S vouchers.
Which ever way you wish to process it though, ensure that you also make it known that you wish to transfer your current telephone number across as well.
You should be notified if the equipment is already full. If it is, then the process is to place you on Sky BB Connect. This isn't something I would recommend based on all the reports I have read.
Due to the nature of the information regarding how many customers are enabled at your exchange, I somehow can't see Sky telling you or I how many people are on any single exchange.
See above.
No problem. If I can't answer, I sure others will be more than able.

Re: Migrating from Talk Talk to Sky
Earlier this year there was an issue with porting numbers over from Talktalk. Give this thread a read.
Not putting you off. Just warning...
