ok....so I am now with sky.
Phone line switched over on 13th sept and broadband switched on on the 22nd.
This was all well and good, but some numptys at sky central forgot to tell talktalk to cancel my account so now I have two accounts running concurrently.

Looking at the high levels of customer complaints against TalkTalk, I would first check whether a message was sent by Sky. It is also often stated that you do need to notify you old line provider to cancel your contract with them when you change to a new provider.
Cancelling Direct Debits, etc. is your responsibility.
At the same time, someone in TalkTalk should have realised that you are no longer getting any service from them once your line was moved away.

Already checked.
Sky did not notify talktalk, even though they said they would.
And yes I agree with your last statement.
