Question about stats
HI
it's my 7th day with sky, first day it was 4mb after 2 days it was 8mb
but atm its still 8mb
System Up Time: 140:39:06
Connection Speed 8191 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.5 dB 18.7 dB
Noise Margin 18.6 dB 14.0 dB
what this stats realy means, like i understand Line Attenuation, if its lower that means better and faster connection what a about 30.5 good or bad ? before with BT option 3 i think i had 29....something
Noise Margin 18.6 dB 13.5 dB like i understand if its higher its better ?
like i see in this forum some ppl have this 7dB etc ? what about my 18.5 good or bad ? btw my sky router is top of my computer like on my computer case
i was just cleaning my pc, i just remove my router (ofc i dint disconnect) 24/7 on
but Noise Margin change after before it was 19.7 after 15 min different location it's now 18.6 so witch location will be better, place were i get higher noise margin or away from computer were i get lower noise margin
before i had bt option 3 and i download files like 1.6mb/s
with bt Connection Speed 15008 kbps 888 kbps same line
but with bt connection my ping was like 55 in uk servers with sky my ping is 42 so its quite good. but when my donwload speed will go up? yeah i know its still 7th day but 8191 kbps its not that kind of speed what i expect with sky.
anyway still 3 days to go, but still. but atm my biggest question is why Noise Margin change away from computer its lower, top of my computer its higher

Re: Question about stats
Attenuation is an indication of the line length between you and the BT exchange so the lower the better.
Noise margin is an indication of how noisey the line is, the higher it is the more speed you have to come. As the noise margin drops, your speed should increase, it will do this with Sky until it drops to 7db which is as low as Sky allow it.

Re: Question about stats
That's a very good line you got there.
Attenuation can be seen as the length of line. The greater the worse.
Any noise margin above 7db can be seen as spare capacity for speed. Hence the greater the better. As you can see you are at 8mb already and you still have 11.7db to spare. Good speeds coming your way.
Edit: Ditto^

Re: Question about stats
You need to give Sky a call as you'll be looking at double that speed once they've reset it

Re: Question about stats
You have a high noise margin for the upstream connection. Keep an eye on things and this may be corrected in a few days.
Personally I would be inclined to call back and get someone else to reconfigure your connection instead.
