New User - Speed and disconnect issues
Hi everyone im new here (my name is Adam
) and im also a new sky user!
I've taken out the new £19.50 package but i upgraded the internet to Unlimited and also taken out line rental with Sky so i can have everything under one bill.
My Internet and phone were connected today, after transferring from O2. I had no problems at all with O2...good speeds (between 12 and 14mbps) and never experienced disconnecting.
I connected the router and got online at about 5 this evening and within the first hour or so it disconnected about 5 times and my Speedtest.net results said i was running around the 3mbps mark though i do realise its early days.
I was wondering can i expect a (significant) increase over the next few days? And are the disconnects commonplace or should this die down also? (It has died down already...when Sky TV was fitted, the engineer fitted the router near the Sky box on the other side of the room to the phone socket via an extension. I have, since the disconnects, moved it to the phone socket and it has only disconnected once in about 3 hours since).
Thanks in advance for your help!!

Re: New User - Speed and disconnect issues
Hi Adam,
Welcome to the forum.
Ideally we need to see your router stats from your test socket. If not router stats from the socket your o2 router was plugged into will do. When you connect to sky the first 10 days are seen as the line testing phase in which you start off at 4mb and gradually work your way towards your lines maximum.
How to get your router statistics

My router stats are as follows:

Hope this helps!!

Re: New User - Speed and disconnect issues
Are these from the Test socket, using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky. With your attenuation and no problems on your line, you should get pretty near 20Mb. However if you were only getting 12-14 with O2, that suggests your line may have a problem. Plug into your Test socket to rule out internal problems.

Re: New User - Speed and disconnect issues
Congrats mate you are in for very good speeds.
In order to ensure maximum broadband efficiency you may want to move your router to your master socket (if it's not there already) and get a filtered faceplate (if you have extensions and you need them working)
With any wiring issues out of the way you should be able to get the full 20megs on your line.

Re: New User - Speed and disconnect issues
Well thats a relief! I knew i was capable of good speeds as i know i live close to our local exchange and i was more than happy with my speeds on O2 and i do realise its early days
My old router was permanently into the master socket and Sky one now is (and will continue to be...i'll run a longer ethernet cable to the box for Sky Anytime+) Those stats were from the test socket (im still in there in fact)
I'm very grateful for the info you have given me...looking forward to that speed creeping up!
Thanks again for your help and if theres any other bits of info on things i can do to help things, i will be eternally grateful! :P

Re: New User - Speed and disconnect issues
I would be more inclined to double check that you don't have the Sagem 2304n router at the moment.
If you do and you have the older firmware, then it would be a good idea to disable the WiFi. See this thread for more info on the firmware version & the update which has finally been released:

Re: New User - Speed and disconnect issues
I do have a sagem modem..just realised i haven't updated it on my profile!
I will have a look at the firmware and any updates immediately (it looks like a mini Sky+HD box if that helps)
Thanks for your continued help!
