Re: What a pain Sky can be
Opposite to that, though, had someone who was on the free (2Mbps) package in sync @ 14Mbps - they'd called saying it was slow and it was 'well, it's about to get a whole lot slower'. They weren't too happy, said they wanted their money back and my response was 'well, you actually owe us money for being on the higher package and not paying for it'
They shut up pretty quickly...-------------------------------------------

Re: What a pain Sky can be
72 hours passes but still no phone. The call centre guy did ring back though as promised. When my son told him he still had no phone (broadband etc seems ok), he got back into the system and said ahh its not been done..! it will be another 72 hours..when my son said he'd been though that twice now he said he would need to get help and would call back. In the meantime my son had emailed the ceo/chief exec at sky and receioved a reply (no doubt from a minion but what the heck a reply is a reply). Anyway, the email said they had a special team ('black ops' no doubt) and a member of the team would call him at lunch time on Sunday... We shall see..

Re: What a pain Sky can be
@siege2: With those stats, I can guarantee that a manual configuration will reduce your download connection speed.
The upload could be improved upon quite easily though. 796kbps is poor for your connection.
The ping may also be improved, but there isn't anything to compare with as you haven't posted this info.

Re: What a pain Sky can be
Hi Scubbie
you mention a manual configuration, is that with another modem? also when I was on sky's gamer profile I had a upload think 1152 kbit/s for a quite a few weeks until my IP changed, then phoned up to talk to my first mindless operator.
I had then with the gamers profile
Noise Margin 6.9 dB 8.7 dB
now I have the 18 db on the upload my ping stats are
Pinging BBC - Homepage [212.58.244.68] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.58.244.68: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=56
Reply from 212.58.244.68: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=56
Reply from 212.58.244.68: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=56
Reply from 212.58.244.68: bytes=32 time=30ms TTL=56
Ping statistics for 212.58.244.68:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 30ms, Maximum = 35ms, Average = 32ms
I do have the DrayTek Vigor 2820n Annex A Modem is there a way to use it so I can get the Upload DB down?

Re: What a pain Sky can be
Your pings are fine.
Changing routers or modems will not change your connection stats in the right direction. Whilst a router which has a chipset which is matched to Sky's LLU, the download figures show that you have a very good line and any improvement will be minimal.
Unfortunately the upload speed could be improved IMHO. You could get the speed increased to a little over 1,000kbps. Unfortunately the techies at Sky will normally limit your d/l to 20,000kbps if they manually configure a line.
They can keep the ping low.
This has to be your choice. Your needs will be very different to my own.
Personally I would love to be able to have Annex m. In my case the d/l speed would reduce to around 15.5Mb, but the u/l would increase to 2Mb. Sky does not offer this though.
The benefits in my usage pattern would mean I could share a document with a friend more easily & upload files to a website quicker. it would also allow me to improve my ratio sooner with torrents, but this isn't crucial. As i said though, Sky do not offer Annex m.

Re: What a pain Sky can be
Once the telephone has been sorted, post your son's stats.
Ideally he should be connecting to the master socket.
