drop in speed!!
hello, wondering if some one can help me. been on Sky bb since 27/04/2011 with the sagem router and to be honest every thing WAS fine. my details for the line are
Download Speed
Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to
13.0Mb (13312Kb)
Upload Speed
Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to
1.0Mb (1024Kb)
and was getting that for the first few weeks. then i activated my sky any time, and well not sure if this caused the problem (at this moment in time it is unplugged from the router) but my speed DROPPED BY HALF!!!.
and where once pages loaded with ease and very quick they now are sluggish and on the odd page timing out!!! I have evreything wired to the router i.e xbox pc and blackberry, wireless. I've switched of the router, waited, restarted and now sync at
DownStream Connection SpeedUpStream Connection Speed
12720 kbps
945 kbps
also my line stats are
Connection SpeedLine AttenuationNoise Margin
12720 kbps 945 kbps
38.0 dB 23.0 dB
8.1 dB 13.3 dB
ok i hope this is enough info and sorry for going on so long. thank you in advance for any help.

Re: drop in speed!!
Turn off all devices and run a speed test via ethernet cable from one machine at speed.io - Internet DSL Speedtest. Post up the results from that.

Re: drop in speed!!
Are you using wireless? this will almost always be slower than an ethernet connection.
You do know that when you are running torrents at their maximum, you are using up bandwidth which is not then available for browsing or any other kind of downloading. You must set your torrent speed, both down and up to allow you some bandwidth for other uses.
If you are not using wireless and not running torrents and still find it slow, try starting in Safe Mode with Networking and go here Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester and do a speed test. Post your result.

Re: drop in speed!!
Just to complement what Tom has posted, it is also important to understand the difference between speeds and how they are quoted.
On my torrent PC it will occasionally managed a max download connection of 1.8MB/s.
My current connection speed is just shy of 20,000kbps.
Speed tests give me around 17.6Mb/s.
Note the differences in upper & lower case letters.

@ isitme no not wireless Router to pc with xbox and sky Hd box to router but since all this started Hd box has been unplugged.
@ Scubbiie. the sky lady was at a total lost as to why my router was saying
Connection Speed 13160 kbps 945 kbps but speedtest.net was.
she even said that the speed could go HIGHER!!!
It just does not make sense

Re: drop in speed!!
Important question: is Canterbury the default server or are you specifically picking it out yourself?
It is important to understand that the default server for Speedtest.net should be where the Sky servers you are linking to are first exposed to the Internet, not your personal geographical location.
Typically this may be London or Manchester.
