Finally connected how do my line stats look?
Hi all
Finally i have my broadband workingim so happy! Just wondered if someone would not mind taking a look at my line stats.
One thing to note, my broadband was activated on the 12th may and the DLM kicked in on the line on the 13th may and showed as completed on my mysky account on the 15th may. My broadband only actually started working today 17th may once the engineer went to the exchange and did something for the magic "@" symbol to appear. Anyway i dont know what line the DLM was looking at but i dont think it would have been mine if the broadband was not actually working. When i spoke to sky and they asked me to unplug my router they said it should show as unplugged there end but it was still saying it was plugged in and working fine, im guessing maybe it was on the wrong port at the exchnage? Anyway Its saying on my account that my speed has been set to 4mb which i was kinda happy with as my line as far as i am aware is pretty far away from the exchange.
here's my results
Connection Speed
2048 kbps
416 kbps
Line Attenuation
60.0 dB
31.5 dB
Noise Margin
11.9 dB
16.0 dB
Its an MER connection as well

It's easier to post them with which is which downstream/upstream but looking ok and you shuld get some more speed once DLM has completed - at least another meg I reckon

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?
Thanks mate, just spoke to sky they managed to get my downstream to 2828kbps in the 1st socket that enters the house which is in the hallway ( i dont have a so called master as its the grey box located outside my house) we then tried another socket in the living room and it only synced at 2500kbps so i changed it back to the 1st socket that enters into the house in the hallway and it would only sync at 2600kbps this time
. They said they would put the DLM back on my line and asked me to monitor it for 24hrs.
When the engineer plugged his machine into the socket it was showing as a max upload of 1mb and a max downstream of 3789kbps. I really hope i can sync at 3mb id be happy with that. I was thinking of removing the ring wire to see if that helps but the engineer when i asked him said you need it?
At the mo the stats are showing
Connection Speed
2608 kbps downstream
412 kbps upstream
Line Attenuation
63.0 dB downstream
40.5 dB upstream
Noise Margin
7.3 dB downstream
15.9 dB upstream

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?
You're on ADSL2+, would've thought they'd move you to GDMT as you're on a long line - would've also thought they'd sort the upstream out too
Looking good though-------------------------------------------

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?
Amazing what a dodgy filter can do to a connection. Get a filtered faceplate and do away with them forever!!

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?
I was shocked mate to be honest in the difference, i dont think there's any point me trying my other router as i dont expect to get much more out of my line. As for the filtered faceplate i would like to give it ago but im a bit worried about the wiring of it, im not much of an electrician if im honest lol

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?
Do you have extensions going off round the house? If not, there's no wiring required
If there is it's just a case of removing the wires from the old faceplate and re-crimping them to the same terminals on the new filtered one. It's really simple-------------------------------------------

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?
Take a look at the page on this site:
::. Kitz - Improve your adsl connection speed .::
It is a relatively simple take to complete, but it you are unsure, I trust that you have a friend whom may be able to help you.
Remember too that you will need to order both a filtered faceplate and an IDC tool as well.
Whilst a credit card or disposable IDC tool will help, a proper IDC tool might be a safer option in your case.
Most people on this forum who go for filtered faceplates have NTE5 sockets. These are easily identified by having a split faceplate. This would be the usual solution:
BT NTE-2005 ADSL Faceplate for NTE5, 6 Way Version
From what I understand your faceplates will all be one piece. In this instance the standard faceplate won't be of any use. Instead what I would highly recommend is a friendly phone call to Run-IT-direct. The often post on this forum, so do mention that you were referred to them from here.
