Re: Recommended Non-Sky Router
Not at all. You've in effect bullied someone into putting through a request which is against T&Cs of the Sky BB service. Any agent with half a mind would've told you where to go and, if you'd threatened to cancel, put you through to cancellations to do just that.

Re: Recommended Non-Sky Router
And where did I state I bullied someone?
Actually, I made polite requests and got what I required.
I'd suggest in future that before you make spurious comments on what you assume someone did that you check your facts.
In relation to your comment that if it had been you on the phone, if indeed it had and you had been that obnoxious then you would of found yourself on the wrong side of a complaint.

Re: Recommended Non-Sky Router
Khristian, please don't let this thread degenerate into a slanging match.
Sky employees have been dismissed in the past for providing the log in details.
It sounds like you got lucky.
I personally would never advise another member to call Sky to get their log in details, I would always recommend that they look at the site on-line to help them.
This means that you don't get things lost in translation (such as upper & lower case letters) and no one has their job put at risk.

Re: Recommended Non-Sky Router
To be fair to Khristian, he hasn't violated the Ts and Cs, Sky have by not providing kit that is able to perform up to the task it was supplied for.
But going via the Executive Office, he has been granted an acceptance to use a non-Sky router.
By going to 2nd tier support, they are correct in not supplying details. But by going higher, and being persistent, then yes it can pay dividends.

Re: Recommended Non-Sky Router
Oh I wouldn't, just stating my side.
As far as I am aware, and have been informed by High Level Escalations, and Exec Support. Sky are now willing to provide the details, but only to those who can demonstrate a good technical understanding and need for them. Of course it wont work for everyone.
Although as someone who works quite often, and very closely with Sky I have made my views clear internally (that anyone who wishes for them should have them as many users are willing to buy their own (usually better) equipment).
I admit when I first requested my details I got told no, then I was told you can use your own equipment but we will not provide details, then after querying it I was provided with details. it is quite hit and miss.
I should also point out that this was when Sky first started using the DSL-2640s which no one had cracked. If it had of already been done by then I wouldn't of bothered with asking Sky.

Re: Recommended Non-Sky Router
Greetings once again peoples.
So I have now received and setup my nice new 7402NX.
I have also been tweaking the settings and currently have it set as:
Modulation: G.Dmt.BisPlusAuto
Profile Type: BT
Activate Line: true
Coding Gain: Inc1_5
TX Attenuation: Bis_0DB
I am now syncing at 4032 / 896 where as before this was 3072/896 so there is some improvement.
I have done the "port a1 show" command via Telnet and which returned the results below.
I am just wondering if anyone with more experience with these routers can comment if there are any other tweaks or settings they would suggest, and also if anyone can spot my max attainable speed (or point me in the right direction).

Checking the attenuation of 63.5db, it's estimating you for between 2-3Mb/s. So connecting at 4Mb/s, you're doing well.
However there seems to be some errors on the line. You using your test socket? If you're hoping to squeeze every last bit (pardon the pun) out of your line, I'd suggest using the test socket.

Re: Recommended Non-Sky Router
I also noticed your very high attenuation, have you moved house since you posted in this thread - http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-d...tml#post287098
I think the speed increase may be due to your noise margin being below the Sky default. Have you set your router for this? If you have returning it to 7 db may reduce your errors and give you a better throughput.
